Which Miele vacuum cleaner?

Laquila · 04/04/2019 17:54

I need a fairly compact vacuum cleaner and have read a lot of recommendations for Miele. Is the compact 3.5L one going to be foolishly small? I could get the 4.5L one but I need it to fit into a cupboard with a 265mm aperture! (Not a sentence I ever thought I’d need to write...Christ I need to get out more)

Or should I get a bagless one? We’ve had a bagless handheld Dyson for a while and it’s a bit of a faff to empty but obviously the cost of the bags will get fairly significant.

Any advice appreciated!

I have had two miele vacs and both were the least expensive, smallest models they offered and both have been brilliant. Even vacuuming a good sized house with three cats I get at least 8 weeks use per bag and buy them on-line, so not a major expense.

Laquila · 04/04/2019 18:34

Wow that’s a lot longer than I thought (and we don’t have cats!) - thanks Miss!

Did you have something similar to this model?:

There’s a slightly bigger one at a similar price that I’m also looking at:

Top rated on which is the C3 ecoline silence model.

Thanks MissMarple but £229 is beyond our budget - I don’t want to pay more than £150 really. I notice that one’s 500w, as opposed to the ones I’ve linked above which are 800w/900w - I think this is a stupid question but presumably that relates to the amount of power they use, and hence the lower efficiency ratings on the cheaper ones?

I work as a commercial cleaner in a care environment and have been using the Miele C3 EcoLine for just over a year and can't fault it.

We've had Dysons, Hoover and Shark vacuums in the past and this is by far the best!

MrsFrankDrebin · 04/04/2019 19:35

I have four cats, and have had two Miele hoovers over the years. I can't fault either of the models I've had (although I suspect both may be slightly more than you want to pay). However, as a brand, I can't help but think that any model, at any price, is going to work well.

When I need to replace this hoover (which won't be for ages - they last for ages) it will be another Miele. Smile

ShirleyPhallus · 04/04/2019 19:36

None, get a Shark. Superior in every way!

MidnightBlue28 · 04/04/2019 19:41

Our Dyson Animal died and we got a Miele Complete C3 Cat and Dog Powerline Bagged Vacuum Cleaner in the Amazon sale... (it does cost more than you want to spend, but I agree with MrsFrankDrebin about the brand) and it has been a revalation, will never go back to a Dyson again

HotSauceCommittee · 04/04/2019 19:47

I don’t like my Miele Animal: there is a filter that needs changing at £20 a time every six months or so; I would never have bought it if I had thought about that, and the electric spinner head thing has stopped working so we have to use the other one. Approach with caution, it’s far too much fuss for me.

MitziK · 04/04/2019 19:47

I got the Blizzard Bagless. It's brilliant - and since I got it, DP suddenly has no objections to vacuuming.

Cost an arm and a leg, though - but it's many, many times better constructed than a fucking Dyson.

Equimum · 04/04/2019 19:49

www.amazon.co.uk/Miele-we?tag=mumsnetforu03-21 have this. Bought about a year ago and by far the best vacuum we’ve owned.

MissConductUS · 04/04/2019 20:30

My Miele looks more like the larger one you linked to on amazon. I think the model numbers are different in the US and mine is about 10 years old at this point. The Germans do know how to build things.

WYP2018 · 04/04/2019 20:33

I’ve got the c3 power line, and it’s fantastic. Better than any Dylan I’ve ever had. It’s £179 on Amazon at the mo

WYP2018 · 04/04/2019 20:33

Dyson! I’m not using someone called Dylan to sweep up for me 🤣

MissConductUS · 04/04/2019 20:37

I had a Dylan once and he was quite memorable. Grin

Onynx · 04/04/2019 20:41

Just a caveat though- Dyson vacuums are good but when something goes wrong they have the absolute worst customer service (google them) and the parts are vvvv expensive to replace. That said- their suction is excellent and a million times better than a Henry et al.

Laquila · 04/04/2019 21:44

Thanks everyone! It can’t be terribly eco-friendly but I do like the idea of the bags.

And I’m keen to meet Dylan 😂

MadSweeney · 04/04/2019 23:04

I have the blizzard too. I'd rescue it if the house was on fire 😂

BasilBrushes · 04/04/2019 23:08

I have a Miele and it’s great. I don’t mind bagged cleaners at all, so less faffy than the dust cloud you get with a bagless.

RebeccaWrongDaily · 04/04/2019 23:11

i have the C3 cat and dog one, i would honestly get a catalogue out and buy it from there if you can't afford it outright. It's the best thing we've ever had, it pulled out stair carpet up

AlrightBabby · 05/04/2019 01:11

Are all Miele vacuum cleaners cylinder style, I need a new vacuum but I like upright ones

Laquila · 05/04/2019 09:25

Wow, people really love their Mieles! (Or possibly Mielen?!)

I’ve now ordered a Classic C1 Jubilee from John Lewis, with a telescopic handle - I’m excited! I’ve got that ridiculous feeling of optimism that oh get when you order a new appliance, the one that makes you think your house will magically turn into a showhome once it’s delivered...

SpamChaudFroid · 05/04/2019 09:30

I can't stand mine! Worst vacuum cleaner ever, and has been sent to the cellar. I replaced it with a Shark, bloody fantastic.

opinionatedfreak · 05/04/2019 09:31

I hope you like it.
I have a C2 with an additional parquet brush as I have hardwood flooring.

This is my third one. First got kidnapped by my Dad (it was an old Solution Hepa - is more than 10yrs old & still works perfectly), second was the entry level model and I never got on with the stupid thing to keep the tools on so I donated it to friends, third is my C2 which is perfect for my needs.
