Does anyone have a Ring doorbell?

I've heard about these doorbells that you can use with your phone. Anyone have one and would you recommend? Are they easy to set up for luddites like us? Grin

Had one I was not a fan and gave it away. Just hate the subscription you need with it.

twosoups1972 · 04/04/2019 16:41

How much does it cost pink?

We have one plus other ring lights/cameras. I really like ours! You don’t need a subscription to look at live images just to store them.

Murinae · 04/04/2019 16:46

And you need a pretty fast WiFi connection not too far away from the front door

MadSweeney · 04/04/2019 17:07

If your wifi isn't up to much the caller will be long gone by the time you get a notification.

GookledyGobb · 04/04/2019 17:23

We have a battery one and it’s a pita to remove it to recharge. Plus it’s only chime is external so unless you’re near your phone or the door it doesn’t even work as a Norma doorbell)

Oh dear gobb so basically you have to have your phone with you Hmm I thought it would chime throughout the house. Will have to think of something else. I hate the ring of our current doorbell and want to change it.

You can buy a chime for in the house, about 25 pounds. I have the ring doorbell (and stick up cam) I really like it.

Scoleah · 04/04/2019 17:51

I wanted one, but none were in stock to arrive before Christmas (last minute) managed to have a Smart doorbell, which takes a photo of the person at the Door instead.
Came with a Chime too, and I get a notification on my Apple Watch & Phone with it!
Don't need any subscription Costs.
You can't talk to the person on the other end though, like i originally wanted, but I love mine!
Had on Groupon for £27ish! Can prob get them cheaper elsewhere!

We love ours - we have it on the gates rather than front door.
Subscription was peanuts for 2 years and ours chimes in the house.

We had to boost the wifi as it was quite a way from the house, but that's not the products fault.

I use it to let deliveries in when we are out mainly - really useful!

I have two and they’re great. The way my house is laid out means they act as security cameras too and cover most of the property.

The subscription to store videos was about £25 a year and the actual devices were £89 each.

They come with the diodes to hook it up to the electric, but I haven’t bothered doing that - mine go off a lot with wildlife and stuff and I still only have to charge them every couple of months.

seastargirl · 04/04/2019 18:04

I love ours, it chimes in the house as well as on your phone, we've a plug that's in the living room and you can hear it all through the house. I've managed to answer the door from Lanzarote so not had any connection problems.

If you can wire it in its better as saves having to charge it.

The only thing I hate about it, is if the tv's on and I'm not watching it, I frequently go to answer the door only to find it was the ring advert and not the doorbell.

DontCallMeShitley · 04/04/2019 19:23

You don't need a subscription, we didn't.

However in spite of what they say, it isn't marvellous. We have had one twice, added a booster, tried the helpline, there is a long delay between someone arriving and actually being able to see them on the phone, too long.

Both times it went back for a refund. Our broadband is excellent, just Ring that isn't. I also felt I was being watched when I put the bins out or spoke to a neighbour. It is creepy.

I have one. I do love it and am currently looking into getting the solar panels they do to save on remembering to charge it up.
