Painless lump under armpit - when to see Dr?

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 03/04/2019 22:22

So I have had a painless, hard, round pea-sized lump under my armpit for the past few weeks (under the skin, so only noticed it when washing, it's not raised), but not sure how long to give it before getting it checked out? Not causing any problems and not feeling unwell. Thoughts?

I would go this week.

N0Time · 03/04/2019 22:26

This week, definitely, painless doesn’t mean harmless. The fact you’re not feeling unwell is a good sign, but not enough to leave it. I’ve had various family members diagnosed with lumps that needed treatment, 2 of which had no other symptoms.
I hope it’s nothing to worry about.

Princessdebthe1st · 03/04/2019 22:26

Dear OP,
You need to see a Dr urgently (this week). The likelihood is that it is nothing to worry about but a lump in the armpit can be a symptom of breast cancer and so that needs to be ruled out quickly.

Yep, go ASAP.

EdithWeston · 03/04/2019 22:29

As you've had it a long time, I'd say it's worth making an appointment now. There are quite a lot of possible causes, and it is worth getting checked by a doctor

OutnumberedByFurchesters · 03/04/2019 22:31

Tomorrow, or as soon as possible.

Hopefully it's nothing to worry about, but best to make sure.

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 03/04/2019 22:34

Really busy this week, plus doubt they'll have appointments, but will give them a ring and see if they have anything next week. Guessing it's just a lymph node though. Just haven't had any infections and so don't know why and also don't know how long they would take to go away.

I would call the doctor and tell them you’ve found a lump and need an urgent appointment. Chances are it is just a lymph node but it’s not worth taking the risk

Fazackerley · 03/04/2019 22:40

Do you have one on the other side. I had this and it was a lymph node

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 03/04/2019 22:41

No only on one side. But yes, pretty much 100% sure it's a lymph node. It's hard, rubbery, attached to the skin and smooth.

Today.

Ring them and ask them to fit you in please.

Good luck.

Froglette16 · 03/04/2019 22:47

There’s a strict 2 week target on getting you seen by a specialist for anything that resembles breast cancer. As others have said, it may be nothing. I’ve been referred swiftly on 2 occasions now. Ended up being a cyst or blocked milk duct. But you shouldn’t risk it. Tell the GP it’s urgent and why, and they’ll see you ASAP. Also helps to be seen quickly to lower anxiety, and boy, I can understand anxiety about lumps now! Good luck! Get seen. Keep us posted. ❤️

2rachtint · 03/04/2019 22:57

I had exactly the same and my gp gave me a same day appointment and a referral to the breast clinic where I was seen 10 days later. Gp was very reassuring it was a cyst but wanted to absolutely make sure. Quick ultrasound at breast clinic and cyst was confirmed.

It's almost certainly nothing sinister but if it was then stakes are too high - the sooner you're seen the better so definitely prioritise seeing your GP!

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 03/04/2019 23:14

Thanks. Yeah I am pretty sure there's absolutely nothing sinister going on. But will give them a call next week when life is a bit calmer for some reassurance.

Why next week. Your health is important this week too.

Good luck.

PissOffPeppa · 04/04/2019 01:09

Like others, I had a lump last year and when I called them, they booked me in for the same day. It turned out to be an infection but GP surgeries take lumps very seriously so you should get seen very quickly. Call them tomorrow.

HarrySnotter · 04/04/2019 06:01

Why are you insisting on waiting til next week? You obviously asked for a reason and the overwhelming response has been asap. If you say you have a lump, they will fit you in. It's prob nothing but don't delay.

HoraceCope · 04/04/2019 06:18

PRobably a fatty lump but get it checked it out

stucknoue · 04/04/2019 06:19

Today ! It's probably nothing but the sooner the go the sooner you can relax

Frazzled2207 · 04/04/2019 06:38

I have exactly this. It seems to swell up and become uncomfortable when I'm ill but is there all the time. Probably had it 2 years at least.

GP adamant that it's nothing to worry about.

Do get it checked, but don't panic.

AVeryGoodBadIdea · 04/04/2019 17:25

HarrySnotter I am really not. But I am leaving for work at 7am and get back home around 7pm, so no chance of seeing GP today or tomorrow. Have a late start on Mon, so will see if they can squeeze me in.
