What on EARTH is this thing?!

So, DH order himself a pair of utility trousers (the man LOVES a pocket...) and this strange item arrived with it. There is no reference to what it is on the packaging and there is no mention of it on the invoice of the trousers.

So. It is roughly 50cm diameter and made of the type of waterproof fabric that you might make a foldaway rain jacket from. The ‘outer’ side has a flap with Velcro and the other half of the Velcro is also on the outer, just the opposite side. The inner has two small, shallow zip pockets on opposite sides of the circle. There is a double drawstring all the way around the edge with toggles attached.

Pics included for pondering purposes. Random Savlon tube impulsively included for scale purposes.

WHAT IS THIS THING??

Is there something flexible inside it?

Like a small bendy hoop, or is it just fabric?

sackrifice · 03/04/2019 19:34

What happens when you pull the drawstring?

WinkysTeatowel · 03/04/2019 19:35

Is it to store the trousers in? Like a stuff bag?

Just fabric - nothing flexible in there - the drawstring is just normal cord...

I think it's to put toiletries in for travelling. Arrange on the mat, roll up and draw string etc. My SIL got me something similar once very nice of her, but have to admit I've not used it yet as I have a toiletries bag which seems to work just as well!

TeddyIsaHe · 03/04/2019 19:35

Waterproof bag to phone etc in when out hiking in the utility trousers?

LordProfFekkoThePenguinPhD · 03/04/2019 19:36

A hat?
A mini ground sheet?
A frizbee?

safariboot · 03/04/2019 19:36

Bag for the trousers is my guess.

Knittedfairies · 03/04/2019 19:36

Is it a drawstring bag for the trousers?

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 03/04/2019 19:36

I've seen make up bags that open out flat like that, then close with a drawstring

LumiereLennie · 03/04/2019 19:37

When you pull the string you get a very small flat bag, maybe the size and depth of a frisbee. Too small the fit the trousers in - 6yo DS’s shorts fit...

It's a washbag. One that you can open right out flat like that so no rummaging. They're pretty useful!

historyismything · 03/04/2019 19:37

Poppy time is right pull the draw string and the flap is to cover the gathers

hugoagogo · 03/04/2019 19:37

Not sure, maybe some sort of storage pouch.
I kind of want it...Confused

WingBingo · 03/04/2019 19:37

I think it’s a bag of some sort too. Possibly make up.

I’m sure I’ve seen them before. Off to google!

Poppytime · 03/04/2019 19:38

Actually pancake that's true! No rummaging. Maybe I'll dig it out....

dragoning · 03/04/2019 19:39

I would have said bike helmet rain cover or bike seat rain protector. But it looks like Poppytime is right.

LumiereLennie · 03/04/2019 19:54

Excellent! Either make up or toiletry bag make sense and are handy! And I can make use next week! Thank you!

I like Teddy's theory Waterproof bag to phone etc in when out hiking in the utility trousers?

EnidButton · 03/04/2019 20:28

They're a pretty good idea actually. Be good for travelling

HollowTalk · 03/04/2019 20:30

I think it's for phone and a wallet, to keep them safe and waterproof when you're doing men's things Grin

hugoagogo · 03/04/2019 22:03

If I get one for dd, will it stop her getting mascara on the sheets?🤔
