Has anyone else found they can't lose weight with propranolol?

I've been taking propranolol for about three months now and it's been a massive help. I went through a period of stress/anxiety before starting. I was actually eating a lot before then as the anxiety was making me feel so hungry. I know that a lot of anxious people actually stop eating, but it's the opposite for me.

Now that the propranolol has made me feel better and I'm able to eat normally again, I just cannot seem to lose weight. My usual method (stop eating crap, start eating healthier meals), just isn't working and I don't seem to be able to lose any weight.

I wondered if this might be a side effect of the propranolol? I'm only taking 10mg twice a day but it really works.

Please don't give me diet advice like "have you tried 5:2 fasting?" etc as I'm not interested and I know what method usually works for me, as we're all different. I'm just wondering why my usual method isn't working.

I can't help but I am also struggling to lose weight, and I've taken 40mg a day for chronic migraine for at least 10 years.

I started SW 4 weeks ago, and a lady who started at the same time as me has lost 13 lbs, and I've lost 4! I mean I know we're all different and she's a bit younger than me, but really?!

So I'm following with interest.

I've been taking it lor several years, it's the slow release capsule 80mg I think.

I've recently lost over a stone so I don't think the propranolol has made any difference. Lots of other side effects though!

When I looked into it a while ago it seems your body 'holds onto carbs' than it would if you weren't on it. Low (er) carb seems to work but again as long as isn't white.

I haven't personally gained weight but my diet is horrendously limited atm anyway.

I've tried coming off the tablets a couple of times but I keep ending up with IBS and feeling anxious again. The source of the stress has mainly gone, but I think I should keep taking them for a while longer.

I'm on 160mg slow release for the last few years and last year I lost 4 stone and have successfully kept it off so I don't know?

My DD is on it, she came off dairy because she thought it was upsetting her bowels and she definitely lost weight. She doesn't weight herself and I never mentioned it but I noticed her looking slimmer

I was on propranolol about 10 years ago for six months for migraines, and put on about 3 stone very quickly. I’ve tried really hard to lose weight since then, but just can’t.

ChodeofChodeHall · 03/04/2019 19:04

No, I take 120mg daily and lost two stone with no problems. Are you maybe finding it difficult to get your heart rate up when you're exercising?

Leavesofautumn · 03/04/2019 19:21

I want to try reducing my dose again next week. But I've tried a couple of times already and couldn't cope so I had to go back to the full dose.

Hi I was on propranolol 40mg twice a day to prevent migraines for 34 years and always struggled to lose weight being obese ,it’s now been stopped 4 months ago as it worsened my raynauds , I have already lost a stone with normal healthy eating.
