Baby Shower gift

I've been invited to a baby shower but have declined the invitation. Should I send a present anyway? I'm not sure what is expected as this is the first baby shower invite I've had. There's a list of items for the baby but I was going to wait until it has been born and send something then. Should I send something for the mum-to-be perhaps?
