Too good to waste

Stopped at Lidl around 2pm today for some tomatoes and apparently a blow torch from the aisle of junk! and at the check out saw these huge boxes of veg for £1.50. Lidl are calling them Too Good To Waste boxes as the veg is all past its perky best but there were 7 (yes, seven!) cauliflowers, 5 leeks, a packet of baby cucumbers and an avocado in mine all of which are perfectly fine and of a standard I would buy at full price normally.

I've already made cauliflower mash, cauliflower chowder, and we're having cauliflower cheese for supper this evening and two very surprised neighbours were presented with a cauliflower and a leek each! I've sliced open the avocado and it's beautifully ripe - the kind of ripe you usually have to wait weeks for and then miss because you didn't check between 11.00 and 11.10 on a Tuesday 3 after purchase!

So if you have a Lidl nearby and have a large family or don't mind batch cooking then have a look out for the boxes, they're really fantastic value for money.

Oooh, thanks for the heads up - there's a new one opened near where I work, I'll pop in and have a look.

Make sure to take a trolley! I only had a basket and had to stagger out under this ginormous box! Totally worth it though Smile

Oh no @HarrietSchulenberg Sad That sucks! I think it's a fairly new initiative so hopefully they'll make appearance at your Lidl once the idea catches on...

Oo that's good to hear I was dubious cos some of the fruit/veg I get at mine is already past its best when I buy it normally! I've stopped buying strawberries and blueberries there I'm sick of them being mouldy!
