I am curious of how change of head impacted on your children . Did many staff leave .

My Ds’s head is leaving , generally well respected and definitely has improved the school.

I haven’t ever experienced change of head.

I'd imagine it's impossible to generalise as every school is different, it will depend totally on the new HT her/himself

I am just curious of other people’s experience not assuming what will happen at our school. I expect some are good and bad

Have experienced three changes of head as a member of staff. Takeover of a failing school by a MAT lots of staff left, disrupted teaching, very chaotic.
Old, much beloved head retired at a good school to be succeeded by one of his deputies I’ve seen go both ways, depending on the new head, a strong leader has built on past success, another...really not!

Large secondary school

First head change just the normal amount of staff left.

Second head change over 90% of the staff have left in two years leaving supply and newly qualified teachers in place.

I think it’s the fear of the good teachers leaving that scares me most.

I think it also depends on why the head is leaving. If it’s for promotion or retirement, generally there is time to properly plan for the transition and ensure that things stay on an even keel. Heads have to give longer notice than other teaching staff usually.

If it’s because it’s been taken over by an academy chain, then it might be that they want to put in their own head. That can be unsettling.

Head is moving to another school . No Academy involved . We have just been informed and guvenors now recruiting though obviously no idea how long head has given notice.
