Daughter with Earring Infections / switch to gold?

beachykeen01 · 01/04/2019 10:00

After 3mths of repeat infections my daughter (7) took her earrings out and let them close over, that was about 9mths ago, she is desperate to have them redone and I'm wondering if having 10c gold studs might help instead of the surgical steel... has anyone had a similar experience?

My gut feeling is to wait another year before trying again but she is so so desperate as she adored having them... in between the oozey nasty infections that is 😬

It could be that she's allergic and that's why it appears to be repeatedly infected, so yes gold should be fine. I can't wear cheap earrings for the same reason.

Could it be a nickel allergy?

I've always had the same problem with earrings, and any other metal jewellery affects my skin. 9 carat gold works for me.

If she has allergies gold might not solve the problems.

Titanium is the best bet preferably implant grade.

I get sterile ones from an online store called senerity for about a fiver.

They come in the type of package that can be used with a gun.

Get them done properly from a professional piercing studio who will use a needle and fit implant quality titanium earrings.

The needle causes far less tissue damage than a gun, hurts less and cheap titanium whilst more hypo allergenic than stainless steel isn't polished to such a high level and can cause irritation to the healing lobes.

I had the same problem I had my ears pierced 5 times before I worked out that I'm allergic to everything apart from titanium.
