I could make it work. Am pissing myself at that Phil Wang video though. Laughed so hard at the ending while sitting here breastfeeding DD that she got a shock, unlatched and got a jet of milk in the eye. Now she's furious. Worth it though.

Actually it's not even the advert that's that bad it's the look of horror in his eyes that he is doing it. He knows it's shit, he knows his mates will see (and rip the piss), he knows as he waves goodbye that any shred of dignity has left the building.

I like Phil picking fault with the dialog too. 'Away for a few weeks, you just said you finished early.'

It’s very Lost in Translation Yes! I love that scene. Mind you Bill Murray has such a wonderful sardonic delivery I think he could actually make Tom's advert watchable.

No problems with an actor making an ad for a foreign country. I thought the Kevin Bacon EE ads were brilliant.

The issue is that it’s a toe-curlingly shit ad that makes poor old Tom look ridiculous

So he got up early as penance to chop up a weeks worth of Morrisons Wonky Veg, bang an obviously cold fried egg on top and give his grinder a good going on top to make it up to her.
His explanation that he'd be busy for a few weeks is his way of making himself scarce until she's forgotten about his um.... early arrival.

It's definitely not that he's done a Chinese ad that's the issue.

For me, the biggest issue is the bloody hair. The length is dreadful. The 'how can I make sure you notice that it's receding a bit' styling. The fact it looks all dirty and unpleasant. He looks awful.

I watched it and thought, 'he cannot possibly be younger than me' (he is). He's not the best looking man in the world, but he can look a lot better than this.

For me the issue is that he looks so deeply uncomfortable and the whole thing is so so odd... it does come across like hes done something really awful. I guess it also reads as really invasive/creepy to a western audience... I read it's gone down well in China though.

There was a thread on here a few days ago about men turning up at your house 'do men ever do that thing they do in romcoms in real life?' And 99% of posters thought that in real life it would be incredibly unhinged and frightening.
Well this add, with it's weird inclusion of -you the viewer- in it, is sort of like that happening.
