What to say to friend on first Mother’s Day since they lost their mum?

I have a friend I’ve known for a long time - while we don’t see each other often we do keep in touch through messages. She lost her mum last year and this will be the first Mother’s Day without her. I want to send a message acknowledging that this is likely a difficult day for her but a plain ‘thinking of you’ seems not enough or is it?

Just hello, how are you... Don't overthink it.

I would just say "I was thinking of you today, how are you?"

I'd just send a simple message which she doesn't need to respond to but let's her know she's in your thoughts.

Hi (name) thinking about you and your family today. I hope you're doing well x

Perfect

My first one, my best friend texted me something along the lines of she was joining me in thinking of my lovely mum and while she knew I was sad, she hoped my day would be ok.
