Pre marathon carby dinners

Not sure if this should be in food or the exercise section. Have some marathon runners staying for 2 nights before their marathon. Can anyone recommend some good pre marathon dinners that are reasonably easy to sort. Also what would be a good post marathon celebration meal? Thanks

My fave night before marathon food is minestrone soup - carbs, salt and hydration all taken care of.

You tend to graze on sugary stuff during a marathon so some proper savoury food with some carbs, protein and salt (baked potato with houmous and salad, and a pint of green tea) would go down a treat .

Lots of people like pasta the night before a marathon but my preference is pizza!!

My DH had spaghetti bolognese and garlic bread the night before his Ironman

Keep it plain - no one wants an upset belly or ring sting for a marathon.

Any pasta with a tomato based sauce.

Anything with white carbs, go easy on the fat and fibre.

Paula Radcliffe and various other runners swear by white basmati rice. Easy to digest than pasta and slower release carbs than normal white rice. Avoid things with lots of fibre/veg/fat to help avoid runners trots! I usually have mainly rice and a tofu stir fry, with no onion or mushrooms, just a few strips of pepper and some garlic and soya sauce.

Post marathon- loads of stodgy food, they will be absolutely starving. And plenty of alcohol!

Pasta with not too much garlic or onion for the night before.

Post marathon I’m never really hungry so would prefer to graze - my hunger kicks in about lunchtime of the following day.

Thanks! Hopefully sorted meals pre and post marathon, will also make sure I have plenty of nibbly bits and lots of alcohol!
