Any advice from anyone who has been through this? For the most part, she is ok about getting them, but has a few moments which make me worry. She is 13. Thanks.

She will be sore for a day or two after having it put on (and also after each time it is tightened). Get plenty of painkillers and softish food.

Soft foods and painkillers for first few days

She’ll feel like she literally has a mouth full of metal, her speech will be affected and her mouth will feel huge but remember this is just temporary and she’ll get used to it

Make sure she brushes with all the PITA interdental brushes

And remember it will be SO WORTH IT. The few years I had braces felt like a long time but now, 20 years later, my teeth are still beautiful and straight

Thank you. I think I have the soft food under control, it will be the difficulties speaking that will drive her (and me) crazy.

Frozen mash made catering easier so the rest of the family could stay on solids! My hygienist recommended a water flosser. My daughter has found that really helpful to keep the braces clean. My other tip is buy extra wax to protect from inner cheek cuts - they’ll give you one but that soon got lost!

I have had mine for about 2 months and speech was fine from the start.
Soft foods, oh and on a rough day a square of chocolate fits nice in the roof of your mouth!!

Lol. Dd will like that chocolate tip!
