Buying a bike form Gumtree - seller has multiple bikes

How do you work out if they’re a genuine seller? I originally thought he was a shop advertising, but now I’ve seen the postcode, it’s a house about 5 minutes from the shop.

It seems like he services them and sells them on, but I know gumtree can be bad for stolen bikes. I can’t work out whether clearly havingso many is more likely to be genuine (I mean the police would see it easily) or not.

Chances are they're stolen.

Are the prices lower than you're expecting?

Within the range I’ve been seeing. They're children's bikes.

Tbf I think children's bikes are less likely to be stolen seeing as they tend not to be left locked up outdoors

Is he doing a trade-in deal, buy a brand new bike and I'll sell on your old one?

ThunderStorms · 30/03/2019 12:34

I done some searching... Bike frame number checks out on all stolen/ police check sites (doesn’t show up).

He buys unwanted bikes, services them/ reconditions them and sells them on.

Tbf, he’d be easily findable if he was doing something dodgy, I think.

I think it’s ok...

I know a few people who do this. They're all legit and they spend a lot of time doing them up so they're fit for use.

Yep. We have 17 bikes. Actually 17. I counted. Every so often one gets done up and sold. Then the proceeds are used to acquire more bikes and bike parts.
