Is the lake there one big lake? Or lots of small ones?

It's south of cirencester, so not really cotswolds. Lots of little lakes I think.

VictoriaBun · 29/03/2019 17:46

There is now an expensive lakeside village around it. But many years ago it was basically a gravel pit quarry that has been filled in. There is also a ' beach' area .

ArfArfBarf · 29/03/2019 17:47

It’s the south end of the Cotswolds but it is Cotswolds. Lots of lakes, small and large.

Al2O3 · 29/03/2019 18:08

No. Geologically the Cotswolds curves from north of Bath generally north-east as far as a hill village called Flecknoe where it peters out near the Northamptonshire Heights, but by then it has lost its Cotswold feel. In the north-west it goes as far as Breedon Hill. If you wish to feel in the main part of the Cotswolds, drive up the fosse way and turn off one of the many little roads around bourton-on the-water and stow-on-the-wold.

Longmayit · 29/03/2019 18:35

Thanks everyone I was always told it was the heart of the Cotswolds.

I wouldn't describe South Cerney as Cotswolds.

Cotswolds is Bourton on the Water, Upper/Lower Slaughter/Bibury etc.

GarthFunkel · 29/03/2019 19:23

I’ve got enemies in South Cerney, I’ve got enemies in North Cerney, I’ve got enemies in Cerney Wick. I’ve got enemies in Bourton-on-the-Water.

I thought they were all in the Cotswolds myself.

GiantKitten · 29/03/2019 19:45

South Cerney is where the “Cotswolds Water Park” is. It’s not proper Cotswolds though

GiantKitten · 29/03/2019 19:50

It’s well outside the Cotswolds AONB (green part)

The water park is ok though - lots to do Smile

Is south cerney the main part of the Cotswolds

I’ve got enemies in South Cerney, I’ve got enemies in North Cerney, I’ve got enemies in Cerney Wick. I’ve got enemies in Bourton-on-the-Water.

Anyone who doesn’t get this reference is missing out.

South Cerney is where the Cotswold Water Park is but it’s not central Cotswolds. It’s on the edge.

Longmayit · 29/03/2019 19:54

So is it considered to be Cotswolds?

Not really Cotswolds bit it calls itself Cotswolds 😉

Oldraver · 29/03/2019 20:27

'Edge of Cotswolds' os really all you can say

longearedbat · 29/03/2019 20:43

I can remember when only one lake was in use and the rest were just deserted gravel pits. Geographically it (the cotswold water park)is not really in the Cotswolds, but it is close enough to call itself that by association.
As an area I have always thought the water park is quite unattractive, being very flat with long straight dusty roads running through scrubby grubby trees and shrubs. Unless you need to visit for leisure purposes, there's not much there that's attractive as far as I'm concerned. Parts are also blighted by road noise from the Ciren/Swindon road (A417 I think). Some very expensive holiday homes have been built there though.
If you want to see the real Cotswolds have a look at the lovely villages north, East and west of Cirencester, and anywhere off the Fosse way from Ciren as far as Broadway. Minchinhampton and surrounding villages are beautiful, as is Burford and Chipping Norton in the North Cotswolds. There are so many beautiful places to see, and it will take you a long time to visit all of it.
South Cerney is certainly not the heart of the Cotswolds. I would say the heart was Stow, but that's just my opinion.

Longmayit · 29/03/2019 22:05

Thank you everyone it just looks so lovely with a big lake from pictures. I can’t see any surrounding towns or villages with lakes.
