Can I eat this chicken?

I apologise in advance if this is a really stupid question, but I can't get a clear answer off of Google!

I was preparing a chicken to cook it for dinner tonight, and I noticed that it still had a lot of bony feather bits at the top of the legs. I went to cut those bits off and the string that tussles it up, and the chicken still had bits of its insides. It looks a bit like intestines (it is a chicken without giblets) I've scooped them out but I'm wondering if the chicken is safe to eat? Or if the fact they have been sitting in there for a while could cause a problem?
I would be feeding it to a 1, 2 and 4 year old so want to be extra cautious. Thanks.

I wouldn't! Shock

I'm sure people will disagree but I wouldn't be comfortable.

TheCanyon · 29/03/2019 17:09

Urgh fuck that!

PodgeBod · 29/03/2019 17:11

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. I hate to just chuck it, do you think it will be alright for the cat? Or a completely lost cause?

Just chuck it!

Babygrey7 · 29/03/2019 17:12

Really? It is quite normal, lots of chickens have this IME

Longlostperson · 29/03/2019 17:13

Unless it’s gone off ( smells funky ). I would clean it out well inside with water and cook it and scoff it up. Intestines being left inside isn’t going to make it go off.

Mrsjayy · 29/03/2019 17:14

If it hasn't been cleaned out properly i wouldn't eat it. Where did you buy it can you take it back for a refund

MyDcAreMarvel · 29/03/2019 17:14

That’s horrible , is it from Lidl?

Mrsjayy · 29/03/2019 17:17

Bacteria hang about intestines

PodgeBod · 29/03/2019 17:17

It's an Aldi chicken. I had sworn off buying their chicken because of the amount of times it was off 3 or 4 days before its date, and then I went and gave it another chance Hmm

PodgeBod · 29/03/2019 17:40

No I wouldn’t, just the sight of it would put me off.

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 29/03/2019 18:00

I'd definitely eat it. My mum used to buy market chicken with all the bits in. In fact it was my job to get rid of all the intestines weirdly satisfying! Some we would keep for the pot. I sometimes used to find unlaid and undeveloped eggs in them. They'd be cooked too! Grin

LloydColeandtheCoconuts · 29/03/2019 18:02

Oh! I see it's already gone!

TeddyIsaHe · 29/03/2019 18:05

Fuck me, so people will happily eat meat, but the sight of a small amount of innards freaks you out? Give your heads a wobble.

The innards make great gravy btw. And won’t harm you in anyway. What a waste of food!

I know, pathetic! I just couldn’t eat it. Urgh.
I will go vegetarian one of these days.
