Is this wound infected? WARNING PIC!!

DP had laparoscopic abdominal surgery a week ago. Other (smaller) incisions are healing beautifully but this one is looking and smelling a little funky.

He’s not let me look at it until now. I made him take the dressing off to let it air and I’ve cleaned the little bit of bloody pussy ooze that was in his belly button with warm water and cotton buds.

He’s had no temperature and no pain other than usual. Do I get him to get this checked out?

Any other tips for wound care would be gratefully received Smile.

P.S sorry if I’ve put anyone off their dinner.

If there's pus and a smell, I'd have it looked at at the walk in centre.

It is inflamed and you say it smells and is oozing pus.
Yes. Get it looked at and swabbed.

I'd get that looked at, are there any stitches anywhere? Hope he is ok and getting over his OP.

Righto I’ll dispatch him to the Drs. They open til 6 so hopefully they take pity on him.

It’s only a slight smell, I got my nose right in there. I wasn’t sure as belly buttons can be a bit funky anyway.

He did have a translucent dressing on it. I noticed a slight stain on it and made him whip it off for a look.

It looks sore and red, was it keyhole surgery, poor guy hope they can sort him out.

It was keyhole yeah. He’s been recovering well apart from this so fingers crossed it’s been caught early and it’s easily treated.

He’s sat at the Docs waiting for an urgent care appt now.

Sorry I didn’t update. He had it looked at and they’re happy there’s no sign of infection.

They’ve given him some antibiotics to take if signs of infection appear.

He’s left his dressing off overnight and the squishy gooey bit in the middle has dried up nicely.
