Theres a trainee post advertised and I’m quite interested. Things holding me back is that I’m 36 with a family/kids and I don’t feel my brain will do me any favours with exams and tests.

Is it doable? I have a biology related degree (2:1) and currently work as a band 2 lab assistant in our hospital, as I’ve never been able to use my degree for anything like a career.

Is it demanding and do you have to be a proper academic? Will I learn enough in the job to pass the MSc and other examinations?!

I don't know you at all, internet stranger, but I say GO FOR IT, you are an amazing 36 year old mum with family and kids AND a 2:1 AND experience as a lab assistant! You're amazing! You may not get this job, you may not be right for it, but you'll never know unless you apply! Grin

Thank you 😂

That’s true, I won’t know unless I apply. I don’t want to make a fool out of myself though, and I guess years of being a mother has drained any confidence out of me.

That was a really lovely exchange between strangers!

I also can't help but, you go girl!

That is my best mates job, she is single with no DC so I can't advise on how hard the training will be but once you are in it it seems a great job to have...she works 3 long days a week and has a mortgage by herself in the south at 33.

Thanks for the motivation butty 😂

Thanks for replying camomila. I could do 3 long days easily, as I’m working evenings until 1-2am atm. The trainee position would be 4 days a week and also week long lectures periodically in Bristol, so I’d have to go away and leave dh with the kids. Is your friend on-call too?
