A few years ago I left a job partly because the boss was a rude and unpleasant bully who couldn't even manage a simple hello, please or thank you. So many times I got a barked instruction or brusque email and it was on the tip of my tongue to say 'what's the magic word?' 
I've often wondered how this would have gone down. Fair enough or unacceptable to speak to a boss in this way?
