School today or not?

DS (5) has been off school the last 2 days with a virus. He's had a raised temperature, no energy, no food the first day and very little yesterday.

Today his temperature is normal and he's just has some fishfingers. He's still snotty. I can't tell whether or not the cuddlyness is down to recovering.

Should I keep him off today? He's not normally ill. DM let us stay home at the slightest sniffle and I don't want to be one of those parents.

Does he want to go? Often Friday's at school are much more relaxed than the rest of the week.

I wouldkeep him home - nourishing food, bit of fresh air and a nap / quiet time. He’s not eaten much and will run out of energy fast. And he’s only 5. Best to go back properly well on Monday than struggle today.

I would send him in and ask them to call if he seems unwell.

no, unless you have plans

Send him if he seems ok.

Personally as it's Friday I'd let him stay off as that's 3 more days recovery.
If he goes back today he's likely to be exhausted (even if he survives) meaning day 1 of weekend becomes recovery again.

He's been genuinely unwell with a temperature - that's more than a sniffle.

Drogosnextwife · 29/03/2019 07:19

I would probably keep him off if it's not a problem for you, just to let him fully recover.

Dothehappydance · 29/03/2019 07:22

Keep him off. My mum was always of the opinion 'one day to be ill, one day to recover'

Thank you for the replies.

I've had to take 2 days off work (DH is away) but I don't work on Fridays. Best to make the most of working PT Smile

Definitely! Much better to have a recovering child at home on a non working day than risk having to take moretime off work next week again.

He’s 5! Off until Monday. It isn’t fair on small children to go to school if at all unwell, they need to be at home having cuddles.
I would send a 15 year old thoughGrin

Rubbish. Children are fine coming in with minor sniffles. Teachers know how to manage that.

MinnieMountain · 29/03/2019 08:19

He went to school with full on snots on Monday and Tuesday. That's why I was dithering. But he's barely eaten for 2 days which would leave anyone feeling washed out.
