I am really worried about my DS. He has been dry through the day since 2.5 yo and dry through the night from 3. He recently turned 4 in January and has started to wet the bed. In the last 3 months he has been wetting the bed 2-4 times each night. He has a regular bedtime (7pm) and goes for a wee before his story. He has no drinks after 6pm. I am a little concerned as he seems to be unable to wake in the night to go to the toilet, however he was doing this consistently on his own before he turned 4. We wake him at around 10pm each night as we are going to bed but I just can’t think of what else to do. He is starting to get quite upset that he keeps wetting the bed, we are reassuring him and trying not to make a big deal about it, but I am starting to get concerned. Are there any other mums out there going through this? Can anyone give me some advice please? Tia.

Did you take him tot the GO to rule out infection?

Firstly, put him in pull ups. It must be terrible for everyone to be getting up 2-4 times a night! Not least for him, waking up soaked in wee.

Go to the GP to rule out any medical causes.

Has there been any trauma or upset in his life recently?

My DD did this as soon as she started school reception. It didn't matter what we did she just slept through, even during changing sheets, cleaning and putting back to bed.
We used pull ups for sleep overs(as did a few other friends) and stopped naturally at 6,still slept through but had control.
It's annoying but since she had been dry in the night we knew she would be again.

My son was exactly the same, age 3, dry overnight, ready to come out of nappies and suddenly they were soaking by 11pm. In his case, it was the first sign of Type 1 Diabetes. Is he drinking a lot, using the toilet a lot, thinner, tired? If any of those, please take him straight to GP and ask them to rule out Type 1 diabetes.

Thank you all for you post back. He hasn’t had any trama in his life, except moving out for 5 weeks while we had building works completed at our house. But we moved in with his grandma as a family and he has moved back into the same room, which he loves. He isn’t drinking excessively, losing weight or going to the toilet any more than usual. I will be giving the Gp this morning. We just thought it was a phase and he would soon go back to being dry.

Constipation could be another cause - ask the GP to rule that out as well.
