Advice on my daughter's friendship crisis

My DD8 has been best friends with a lovely girl for the last 5 years. Recently DD was away from school for a while, and on her return her friend had gone off with another group and now won't speak to her or play with her. She's completely broken up about it, and much as I have advised resilience and concentrating on her other friends she's having real difficulty in moving on from what has been her most important relationship outside the family. I'm not trying to fix this for her, as I realise that's not in my gift, but I'm out of options on how to help her cope and would appreciate any advice from those with more experience. Thank you.

Could you invite another friend over for tea and try to help her develop new friendships?

We have a sleepover planned with another friend this weekend. Trying to fill the gap, but nothing's quite the same at the moment....

I would say lots of playdates with other kids in the hope she finds a new friend to bond with.
