DS needs to write his cv and is getting very frustrated (he has adhd) as he has filled in several 'free' cv builders that ask for payment at the end. Neither of us has a clue how to write one or formatting, don't know word etc.

I thought the job centre website had a free one but it seems to have gone.

Thanks.

Do you have Word? There should be plenty of templates on there.

I suggest you look at a skill-set CV if your DS is just leaving school or has no discernable employment history. What area is it he wants to work in? We offer CV writing services for professionals and I'm happy to send you some templates and suggested wording if you let me have a rough idea of what he is looking for.

A skillset CV allows you to sell yourself based on your qualities so instead of it being "I had a paper round and captained the school's football team" which is pretty generic you would speak more to the skills needed and cite applicable examples. So in that example it might be you talk about leadership (made decisions best for team) accountability (balance of school/job/sport), team player (took the job to raise extra funds for new kit). You would also explain roughly why these skills are valuable to future employer, that you're ready to work and while young enough to not have bad habits and are moldable you have a natural talent. It's all about up-selling and, sorry to say this, that doesn't seem to come naturally to people in the UK. :)

Lots of templates on Word and Reed also have some guidance for different types of cv if you Google them.

I’m a CV writer and can send you a basic free Word example for him. PM me if you like.

Thank you all for your advice. In the time it took me to write the post he signed up to one of the paid ones, sent off the cv and then cancelled the free trial. I asked mn to delete my post so it might disappear now.

Thanks again Smile
