MN explaining abbreviations???

This is freaking me out because I don't know if it's just me seeing them. In a thread about finding out the gender (sic) of babies, whenever someone uses a common MN abbreviation it is explained in brackets. It's so annoying and weird but no one else has mentioned it and I've never seen it before. Am I seeing things....

That's it thank you @smurfy. But I'm not a new user and I haven't logged off since the last security breach I don't think. ... Weird! At least I can turn it off, it is truly annoying.
