Mother half has bought me a present in Hamley’s in London, I’m a massive cheat when it comes to this sort of thing and want to know what it is.
He has given me the hint ‘It was handmade in Germany and has been for over 100 years, it's been made popular by a book and pretty much every house has one’ and that it can be found in any room pretty much. Any ideas?

Most important question - When do you find out?

Stompythedinosaur · 27/03/2019 23:26

Have you seen the present bag, do you have a rough size?

FelicityBeedle · 27/03/2019 23:27

Oops *other half. And no, I’m working away at the moment so no hints on size. I should find out tomorrow

Steiff teddy bear?

VanGoghsDog · 27/03/2019 23:30

Hamley's is a toy shop. Not every house had toys, I don't. And even if you do, why would you have them in every room, you don't have them in the kitchen or bathroom.

FelicityBeedle · 27/03/2019 23:31

Steiff did cross my mind, but was it popularised by a book?

I thought bear too.

Steiff Paddington Bear

runoutofnamechanges · 27/03/2019 23:40

We have a Steiff Ratty from Wind in the Willows. Maybe that? Or a mouse? I think they have done Beatrix Potter too.

FelicityBeedle · 27/03/2019 23:47

Apparently it isn’t a bear of any description. He does have form for lying when I guess correctly but I’m inclined to believe him this time. Any other guesses much appreciated

He's described a Steiff bear but maybe it's a red herring.

wowfudge · 27/03/2019 23:51

Wooden toys are a traditional German thing.

Or it could be a Peter Rabbit, so not a bear?

RainbowMum11 · 27/03/2019 23:51

Steiff bear?
Teddy bear

RainbowMum11 · 27/03/2019 23:54

Some sort of clock? Thinking of bagpuss although more Swiss than German, but every house has a clock...

wowfudge · 27/03/2019 23:57

Virtually everyone has had a soft toy at some point was my thinking.

FuckYouRichardParker · 28/03/2019 00:09

Cuckoo clock?

Jigsaw

PerspicaciaTick · 28/03/2019 00:18

I think it is a jigsaw puzzle by Ravensburger

TellMeItsNotTrue · 28/03/2019 01:06

I'm going with a steiff teddy, as they are sold in Hamleys and have been made in Germany for over 100 years, and most households will have a teddy somewhere in the house, the only part that doesn't fit is the book 🤔 there have been books about Steiff teddies but not one that made them a big success, just for collectors really

The only other thing I can think that would be sold in Hamleys, and could be in any room in most houses, would be a clock

FelicityBeedle · 28/03/2019 21:17

He lied.
