Secondary - May half term holiday - Crete

I am thinking about booking a holiday to Crete in the May half term (next year) as dd is obsessed with Greek history. May I think looks better for sightseeing as I understand Crete is super hot in August?

However she will be in year 7 and I'm not sure how going away at that time of year will work with secondary - do they get a lot of homework / are they expected to start revision ? Or can it just work as a holiday week? She will not be taking any home work with her for definite as it will be a proper holiday rest and there is no chance I'm nagging her to do homework in that week.

Or should we just bite the bullet and put up with the heat in August? I can't remember what happens in secondary and i don't want to book a holiday and then end up with a load of stress around getting her work done around it.

Y7 should be fine.
So should y8 & y9.
Y10 depends on when the school does end of year exams.
The only big no is y11 as that is bang in the middle of GCSEs.

If you end up with August, get to Knossos for opening time (8am?) so you have an hour or so before it gets really hot, then retreat to the shade and relative cool of the museum!

We went to Crete in late May/early June & it was still pretty hot!

According to accuweather, the highs last year were just either side of 30 from June to September, & only slightly cooler in May, so to avoid the anxiety of getting permission/DD needing to catch up you might as well go for August Smile

Flights might cost more mind you...

August temps here (you can change month at the bottom)

Being an island it generally has some nice cool breezes & never gets as hot as the mainland, despite being so much further south.

Ah, just realised you’re not planning to take any extra days - sorry, I misread! (When my kids were that age we had a few extended May half-term breaks, from the Wed/Thu before to the Tue/Wed after).

Definitely worth going in May then Smile

Year seven would be fine.
