I couldn’t believe my eyes today - beauty in nature

Ok, so this is maybe not massively exciting, but I thought it was one hell of a coincidence in nature and lovely to see.

I passed a field today - a field with no pond or any other exciting feature - and side by side were two swans, two geese and two pheasants!

I see the swans most days, but imagine seeing those three pairs next to one another.

Wish I could have taken a pic.

Oooh ooh...and our first bluebells of the year!

WTFIsAGleepglorp · 27/03/2019 15:09

I've got a patio base for a bird feeder.

No bird feeder, just the stand atm

This thread is inspiring me to get it all together to feed the dicky birds.

My local area is filled with Eastern Europeans whose men have a habit of snacking on sunflower seeds and spitting them out while they smoke.

When they've finished, they empty the 'excess' sunflower seeds onto the pavement.

Since they've arrived and started doing that, the sparrows are coming back.

I've seen more sparrows in that last couple of months, than I've seen in the last few years.

Bad habits, but good result.

bloodywhitecat your hare is magnificent! You should sell prints on Etsy Smile

The current wedding dress white blossom is actually blackthorn - it comes out before the leaves. Hawthorn is later, after the leaves - it’s the May of “Ne’er cast a clout till May be out”!

GiantKitten · 27/03/2019 15:12

chocolate, I love the little brown calves! (They’re not triplets, are they? Shock)

Springersrock · 27/03/2019 15:14

I love this time of year too

Put DD’s ponies out in their field at around 7am this morning and it was just beautiful. Middle of nowhere, spring grass coming through, all the hedges are becoming green, sun was out and the birds were singing their heads off.

Got myself a cup of tea and just sat quietly taking it all in - bliss!

We had a field of lambs next to us last year. I used to walk the dog that way (on the footpath on a short lead) and two of the lambs decided he was their new friend. He's a very calm greyhound and was just a bit bemused by it all. They'd run up to him and touch noses then try and get him to play their lamb games. I did kind of try to discourage because it's probably sensible for sheep to have a healthy fear of dogs but it was so cute!

Years ago, DH and I were in Scotland (where I'm from) and we decided to go for a picnic. We were sitting in a field in the middle of nowhere having our sandwiches and looking at the view when a golden eagle appears and perched on a fence post next to us. We just sat there gobsmacked. It was the most beautiful experience and I feel so lucky to have seen one of these creatures close up in the wild.

Tomorrow after I’ve helped my dad with his car troubles, I’m going to the local woods with my thermos and a sarnie.

bloodywhitecat · 27/03/2019 18:31

Thank you for all the lovely comments about my hare photo, I have a copy on my wall but have never thought of selling it.

brizzlemint · 27/03/2019 18:33

We get a lot of buzzards near our house, I never tire of seeing them.

TheSassyAssassin · 27/03/2019 19:06

@bloodywhitecat that pic is made for the Countryfile Calendar! Smile

callmekitten · 27/03/2019 19:38

This winter I saw my first sundog - basically a winter rainbow cause by the refraction of sunlight shining through ice crystals in the air. It was beautiful and glowed like no other rainbow I have ever seen.

FloatingthroughSpace · 27/03/2019 19:47

Saw the first little clump of bluebells if the season on the walk home from school tonight.

Well baby-Black has just put a huge smile on my face Smile wanna scoop him/her up for a squish!

BuildAParsnip · 28/03/2019 17:51

This is really lovely. We moved to the countryside a year ago and I recently had a huge wobble about missing city life.

However in the last few weeks I've seen hares from my kitchen window, deer, bluebells and a huge buzzard mewing at us as we walked through the woods. The move feels like the perfect decision again.

Absolutepowercorrupts · 28/03/2019 18:22

What a lovely thread!!

bloodywhitecat* Skye is my most favourite place too...last time we were there, we seemed to bump into a golden eagle pair in every place that we went!!! Wall-to-wall golden eagles...

I live in the suburbs of a very busy city but one of the things I love about my house is that the garden is surrounded by trees. It's bird-tastic out there at the mo.

DH startled a woodpecker this morning and I watched a buzzard circling above the house yesterday. Just lovely. Hope he catches the rat I saw the other day though

TheSassyAssassin · 28/03/2019 19:04

Two of them? And twins? I'll be round in the morn for cuddles! 😍

Another magnolia pic taken whilst out over the weekend Smile

Blackandpurple · 28/03/2019 19:15

I have 3 sets of twins and a single. We have about 16 ewes to lamb. Its just a smallholding, enough for us!

Last year we had triplets and they were born in the snow. Hardy mountain sheep and they thrived! We don’t pamper our flock, they are out in all weathers. Lambs toughen in the open.

TheSassyAssassin · 28/03/2019 19:25

Bet they are loving the current weather though! Smile Hope all goes well with the remaining ewes.

Blackandpurple · 28/03/2019 19:30

They are! When i come home from work they are sunbathing. I kid you not! They sit there, facing the sun with their heads up and eyes closed. Such characters and people have the cheek to say sheep are thick😠

PrivateIsles · 28/03/2019 19:37

Lovely thread!

We walked home from school along the canal today - can't do it much in winter as the tow path gets really muddy - but today was lovely. We saw a heron, some swans and ducks - not as exciting as some of the wildlife on here though! Great pictures and descriptions.

Agree with PPs - this spring seems extra beautiful.

Oh also I love the saying Ne’er cast a clout till May be out”! I always say it as an excuse to wear a scarf almost all year round Smile
