Children's party's

How much do you spend on the average present? I'm quite new to all this and having not had a party with school friends yet I'm always quite unsure on how much I should be spending. And then if a shared party? My MIL said you'd spend the same amount as you would for one child and spilt it. I don't think that seems fair at all 😂

I am watching with interest as we have moved schools and area. It is more affluent. I was thinking of putting £10 in a card but would that seem too little?!

BlueMerchant · 26/03/2019 12:17

I've actually found that the more affluent families actually spend less on presents for other children.
I spend £10. Maybe £15 on close friends. I wouldn't split it to £5 each for a joint party though.

Whitelisbon · 26/03/2019 12:20

I spend about £10 for a party, tends to be just £10 in a card these days though.
For joint parties, £10 each, and be grateful that you don't have to sit through two parties!

Popcornandbuttons · 26/03/2019 12:35

£10 is pretty normal I think and from what my friends have said too. Unless it's for a really good friend of Dd then I'd do around £15. I prefer buying a present rather than cash (as reception age kids) but try and include a gift receipt if poss.

About a tenner, unless it's someone they don't know very well or someone very young. Then it's whatever Aldi have in the aisle of random for about a fiver!! I go up to £20 for DC's besties.

This has been a great help! Thank you

I spend no more than £5 but I do buy things when there’s a good offer and put them in the present drawer.

Scotinoz · 26/03/2019 13:37

Yes, I spend about £10. Hopefully less. Argos 2 for £15, or sales are great for parties. I buy things when I see them for a good price and stash them.

Stompythedinosaur · 26/03/2019 15:05

I generally spend £7-8, but I try to get reduced things that would have cost £10-15 full price. If I find a good deal I buy a few of an item and stash them!

wonkylegs · 26/03/2019 15:52

£5-10 per child, try to buy things when they are on a good offer and stash in a present cupboard.
Doesn't matter how party is hosted that amount is per child.
