Working Compressed Hours. Any experience?

Does anyone have any experience of working compressed hours? How do you find it, and how do the timings work?

Currently do 40 hours a week over 5 days – 9-5pm. We are paid the full 8 hours so don’t take lunch breaks, just grab something to eat at our desks. I am thinking of requesting that I start at 7am four days a week and have one day off. I have been here nearly 7 years and, without tooting my own horn, I am pretty good at my job so I don’t think it makes me too much of a CF to ask. Can I get your opinions please?

Me and DP both do compressed hours, 36 per week with a day off each.

If I'm honest, it's exhausting. We leave at 7am and get home at 7pm 4 days a week, and then we have to sort dinner, bedtime etc. Neither of us ever sit down until 9pm.

It is however worth it for the day off that we each have with DS, and the fact that we only need to put him in nursery for 3 days a week.

In terms of workload, you have to be really strict that the work isn't just piling up for you on your day off, make sure you have an auto forward on your emails etc. You might find you end up taking on more work during your longer days simply because you're there.
