Do you have your own side of the bed?

It seems people are shocked that couples change sides of the bed. Do you? I have my side of the bed in my home, but sleep on the opposite side at DPs. I'd never thought of it before reading this article!

Yes definite sides. It’s the Same wherever we are. Trying to think why - not man protecting so nearer door. I think it’s partly her tends to go to bed before me quite often and always has so I have door side so as not to disturb him. Then think it’s about babies and toddlers and being nearer to them at night.

Dothehappydance · 25/03/2019 23:09

Yes own side. This was fine and dandy in our old house as we had an en-suite and I was stumbling distance. Now however, no en-suite and I'm furthest from the door which means I have to edge my way around the bed in the pitch black.

Even when away we maintain our own sides.

FortyFacedFuckers · 25/03/2019 23:10

I always sleep on the right & dp on the left, one night I fell asleep on the left side(was using his charger) and dp woke me up to tell me to move when he came to bed, didn’t occur to either of us to just use a different side!!

NC4Now · 25/03/2019 23:12

I separated from my husband last year. A whole bed to starfish in but I just sleep down one side.

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 25/03/2019 23:13

All that faff swapping pillows around and moving books. Can't be arsed with any of that nonsense.

Just to debunk the caveman theory, I sleep closest to the door. In other houses, DH has done so. We just have a preferred side, and regardless of bed orientation we sleep that side.

HalfBloodPrincess · 25/03/2019 23:13

Sort of. I have my inch and the toddler has the rest

MyOtherProfile · 25/03/2019 23:18

I'm always on the right, he's always on the left. Assuming by right you mean as you lie on your back, not as you look at the bed. Wherever we are, whatever the side closest to the loo / door / kids, we stick to this.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 25/03/2019 23:19

I don't share & still have a side too. Forever having to rotate the mattress to even out dips.

Walnutwhipster · 25/03/2019 23:22

25 years together and I always sleep on the left. Even if DH is away or vice versa we still sleep on our sides.

Littleraindrop15 · 25/03/2019 23:24

It's never bothered us, I sleep on whichever side I feel like sleeping so does my husband i didn't know it was weird lol 😂 we must be psychopaths

And yup this craziness happens in our home.

NanooCov · 25/03/2019 23:29

I always sleep on the same side at home. When in another bed (hotel for example) I sleep on the side nearest the loo. After two kids I inevitably need to get up for a pee at some point and it's just easier if I've less distance to stumble.

IhateBoswell · 25/03/2019 23:32

At home or in hotels I always make DP sleep on the side nearest the door so the bogeyman/burglar/monster will get him first.

strawberrypenguin · 25/03/2019 23:33

I have my side. DH would probably swap if I wanted to but I don't.

We tried swapping once when one of the DC were in a Moses in our room - the basket would only fit on my side of the bed. DH offered to sleep on my side so I could get some better sleep without baby snuggling in my ear. We had to swap back as I could sleep on the 'wrong' side. Felt like I was going to fall out and couldn't relax at all.

chesterfuckingdraws · 25/03/2019 23:33

We have definite sides and you don't stray over the centre line when sleeping or there's an argument! We even sleep back to back so there's no breathing on each other 🤢😂

I sleep on the left DH on the right in any bed we sleep in (sides determined by standing at the door of the bed looking at the headboard!)

donajimena · 25/03/2019 23:34

I have my side. My partner doesn't live with me and when he's not here I still stay on my side! I use around a third of the bed. I could be banished to a caravan size single and still sleep well. On the empty 2/3rds I keep text books, fiction books and a load of crap.

BadLad · 25/03/2019 23:35

We have our own sides, because my wife's favoured sleeping position is face down with her left arm dangling over the side of the bed, touching the floor, and only one side accomodates that.

Chickenitalia · 25/03/2019 23:40

Yes, always me on the right and dh on the left, even when away from home. I like to think it’s because of the books and pillows being different but actually it’s because I’m nearer the alarm clock and need to actually wake up to shut it off, if dh did it I’d still be there hours later.

When dh is away, ds moves in. That side is nearer the door and loo so that works too. I’m worried now that future dil will be peeved that ds always has to sleep on the left...

BlueSkiesLies · 25/03/2019 23:40

Of course.

But the side has changed over a few times over the years.

I think I actually like to be near the door, except in one house I was away from the door.

BlueSkiesLies · 25/03/2019 23:41

Super king will eliminate all these issues!

ItProtectsMyHead · 25/03/2019 23:43

DH sleeps on the left nearest the door, in our previous house when the door was the other side he slept on the right so maybe the caveman theory does apply to us?

We once slept on the wrong side by accident - it was late, things got 'romantic' and he sort of rolled off me onto my side so I stayed on his. Think we agreed it was the worst nights sleep either of us had possibly ever had.

My side is my side and I'm staying put Smile

TheLuckDragon · 25/03/2019 23:45

We swap sides quite often! We've never had a "side", we just sleep where we feel like sleeping that night!

The people who sleep any old wherever are making me feel twitchy. I might roll over to his side once he's out but it's kinda a starfish. I'm fact if I lie on his side he'd take it as flirting and that I wanted sex lol

RomanticFatigue · 25/03/2019 23:52

But what if you both feel like sleeping on the same side one night?!

MashedSpud · 25/03/2019 23:56

ExH never got up once to see to either of our kids so my side was closest to the door and it still is even though both my kids are grown up and left home.
