I know I'm probably being pathetic... (shivering)

but does anyone else get cold, so cold they shiver, when they've got a virus?

I started to feel a little unwell, drained and cold after a full on afternoon which went away after taking an ibuprofen.

Felt fine throughout the evening albeit a little drained still and as soon as I go to bed I am so cold I am shivering.

I never used to have this symptom during a virus until last year when I was septic. The shivering is taking me right back to the occasional chills which then led to the uncontrollable violent shakes and I hope I'm unnecessarily panicking. I've just taken another ibuprofen although temp seems fine (37.5).

Please tell me I just need to get a grip?!

I get this whether I'm ill with the flu or a sickness bug or even when I'm slightly ill! I know it's common to get the shivers with a virus.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thank you. My mind always starts racing when it's night time!

I had a virus last week. Shivered like hell, then woke up soaking with sweat. I haven't felt that shit in years. I'm all better now Wink

yes, I get that when I have a flu-ish virus.
warm bed with lots of blankets. a drink close by because when the shivering stops the sweating starts.
I hope you feel better soon.

Also I find this worrying about it makes me shiver more as I panic and start getting into a bit of a mess (I am an illness wimp and hypochondriac)! Try to relax as much as you possibly can, you'll be fine

AngelaSchrute · 25/03/2019 22:53

I had the same thing recently. Do you have any hot water bottles?

I found laying on my side snuggled in a duvet with a (covered) hot water bottle between my thighs helped

Also ibuprofen and paracetamol together.

AmIBU123 · 25/03/2019 22:53

Thank you both, this is very reassuring to hear! I looked at the NHS advice on the flu and feeling cold wasn't listed as a symptom (unless my shivering eyes missed it) so I was even more panicked. But yes I'm starting to chill out now (excuse the pun)

Same I had what I think was flu about 2 weeks ago, where I was shivering terribly. I was ill for about a week. It was horrible. Hope you feel better soon.

AmIBU123 · 25/03/2019 22:55

hopl I'm the same! I knew MN would distract and help me!

AngelaSchrute thanks for the tips. I don't have any hot water bottles but I do have one of my DC in bed and she's always warm at night so that's slightly helping to keep the bed toasty!

screamer1 that sounds so rough (but I can't deny that your virus is making me feel better about mine!)

Hah! I co-sleep with a little heater too. :o

Try to get as much rest as possible, easier said than done when your teeth are chattering I know.

I hope you feel better soon.

nespressowoo · 25/03/2019 22:59

Check your temp. You could be having a rigor

nespressowoo · 25/03/2019 23:01

Just see your temp - it's prob on it's way up

AmIBU123 · 25/03/2019 23:10

Thanks AngelaSchrute going to try and get some sleep now.

And thanks nespressowoo I never knew what that was but have looked it up and learnt something new. I have the thermometer at the ready.

I had a sickness bug last week and fecking hell I had 2 hot water bottles under a duvet and I was still bloody freezing!

donajimena · 25/03/2019 23:27

My ailment turned out to be pharyngitis by the way. I couldn't even get up for a wee (I did eventually after lying in discomfort for at least an hour) I'm so anxious when I'm ill. I hope you feel better soon.

Happynow001 · 25/03/2019 23:28

I had something similar recently and wrapped myself up like a mummy, a hot water bottle at my feet, thick fleecy socks (Heat Holders socks around 3 tog), a fleecy hat and a slanket! Also lots of hot and cold drinks and paracetamol. I'm so glad it's gone and I can get out and about probably again. 😀
