Okay, this may be long as I don't want to drip feed. There is a child in dc2's class who tragically lost their mother over the summer. She was a single parent, dad disappeared and it was a sudden, unexpected accident.

This child has, I've been told, been trouble since nursery (now year 2). Physically hurting peers and is much larger than average. This child has now targeted dc2. Today dc2 has been punched in the mouth.

There are always sanctions in place after; missing play time, standing against the wall.... I no longer think these are extreme enough because the incidents aren't stopping. If anything, the attacks are becoming more frequent.

I have spoken to the head and the class teacher, but clearly not enough is being done. I feel for the child, but I need this to stop now.

Any advice on who to talk to or what my next steps should be please?

I am sorry your child is being hurt. However, what would you consider 'extreme' enough? Child has lost their mum, they could beat him with sticks and it still won't compare to how that feels. You absolutely need to ensure school are taking measures to keep your child safe, but what realistically do you think would be an adequate consequence for a child who has had the worst thing ever happen?

I have considered that, but if the child was like this prior to the tragedy.... how much leniency should I give?

I have asked for my dc to be moved away from the child in class, but this has not happened.

I don't think the school are treating the situation well at all, there are no extra staff members in the class to help, no safeguarding measures seem to be being followed at all. It is the school I am blaming for dc2 being injured.
