Baby screamed after calpol

My 9 week old baby had his first jabs today which was traumatic!
The nurse told me to give him calpol straight away then 4 hours after and 4 hours again.

He's screamed for ages after I gave him the 2nd dose to I'm really reluctant to give him his last dose at 8pm tonight.

Can anyone give me advice? I hate to see him so distressed

I'd taste it incase there's something 'off' with it. It's vile at the best of times though..

Are you using a syringe to administer the calpol?
Aim it towards the back side of the cheek and slowly and steadily syringe it in.

Taste it. There was an article in a newspaper a year or two ago about Nurofen leaving a burning sensation in a childs mouth.

Possibly just chance. My dd screamed for about 12 hours straight post first jags. Didn’t enter my head it might be calpol related. Think the men b can unsettle them quite a bit.

To be fair, they won't have tasted anything other than milk before. It's probably a bit of a shock!

LynetteScavo · 25/03/2019 19:35

It's probably a huge shock if he's only ever had milk, and he could be linking it to the stress of having the vaccination (your anxiety and his pain)

My DD made more fuss about having the calpol than the actual jabs.. At 2.10 she still hates it so we have to put it in milk. (It once took three members of staff at her nursery to administer her a dose Hmm). So it might just be the taste.. or just from being unsettled because of the jabs. Was it a new bottle? Might be worth a taste anyway!

Mine squealed for most of evening after jags then slept on an off for 2 days. Had to strip her down an put her on my chest. Was hostage to this as if I moved slightly, it started again. Poor soul Took over a week for her to get back to herself. Wish I had of known (would still of vaccinated btw) but least I'd of been more prepared and knew what to expect. Check their temp and get in on the cuddles. It's horrible seeing them like that

Is it the sugar free/colour free one? That gives my DD stomach ache/cramps. I think it’s the malitol maybe? We have to use the one with sugar in. For the rare occasions she needs it I’m not going to worry about the sugar.
