In severe pain following abortion

I'm a bit concerned about my teen daughter. I found out she had an abortion just over 3 weeks ago. I have spoken to her about it and know it was done with tablets but she hasn't gone into much detail with me.

Following the procedure she was given the contraceptive injection and says that everything was fine and that everything has came away although there has been no follow up to confirm this.

For the last week she has been in severe abdominal pain with the cramps going down both legs and all around her back. Hot water bottles and strong painkillers are not really helping.

She has just started a new job and is in training so really worried about taking time off to go to the drs but her pain at night especially is almost unbearable.

She wont discuss much with me and I feel a bit helpless seeing her doubled over but am really worried incase it's an infection. My other thoughts were could it possibly be side effects from the contraceptive injection.

Has anyone known of anything similar? I will be strongly advising her to go to the drs if she is still the same when she comes home tonight.

It could be an infection. She needs to be seen asap.

Thankyou. I think this is my main worry. She works near the hospital. I may ask her to pop into the area she was seen and get advice. She did say she was given antibiotics and finished the course but this is worrying.

Something shocking like one in ten terminations don’t work completely. She may have to go back for further treatment. I’d get her to a doctor ASAP.

A friend of mine only discovered her teen daughter had had a termination like this.

She may have retained products. She really needs to be seen ASAP

She needs medical treatment ASAP.

If she insists on waiting till after work can you call your nearest clinic and find out where is best for her to go out of hours? I'm not sure if an emergency EPU is appropriate but might be able to scan, or perhaps A&E is best.

111 could help find her nearest place to go. She should have contact numbers from her clinic who could advise.

It's obviously very serious, she could be getting sepsis. Signs are severe abdominal pain, fever, lack of urination, confusion, etc.

Thanks all. I managed to call the ward she had procedure done and they were very helpful. My daughter is to do a pregnancy test 1st incase there is tissue left behind and then phone them with the result so they can decide which direction to point her in. I will get on this today with her and hopefully get her on the mend.
