What does good parenting look like?

Just been thinking about it. From the perspective of someone's child but also as a parent.
Would love to know what childminders/teachers/nannies etc think too.

For a child to feel safe and loved and having their physical, emotional and developmental needs attended to.

I teach parenting classes within children’s centres and teach there is no such thing as a perfect parent but good enough parents.

Good parents takes care of their children’s safety, meets the child’s physical and emotional needs. Listens, acknowledges children’s feelings, praises and loves their child. Plays with their child. Sets boundaries and educates their child on appropriate behaviour using appropriate discipline techniques.
Communicates with their child in a clear, calm and clean way, being assertive when needed.

Also a good parent knows to look after themselves, it’s hard to be a good parent when you are running on empty and are drained.

Bad parents shout and scream constantly, hit their children, put their own needs before their children’s, don’t set any boundaries, don’t listen to their children, mock their children, neglect them.

If you don’t do any of the above you’re probably a half decent parent.
