Any ideas for cheap UK holiday accommodation for a family of 5? (In one of the last two weeks of August)

Thanks in advance.

I've learned on MN, that everyone's idea of 'cheap' is different Grin

Camping ?
YHA have some fab places and do family rooms in a lot of them ?
A caravan ?
Or do you want your own cottage?
or even B&B or guesthouse?

Hi, it really depends on where you want to go. The SW, for example, Cornwall will be very expensive no matter what type of accommodation you go for. We went to the North Yorkshire seaside at the end of August 2 years ago and it was a lovely and really nostalgic holiday. We used an online holiday house rental website think it was owners direct or whatever it is called now.

Ooh, answers! Thank you. Family of 5 so YHA family rooms not quite big enough.
Ideally max 1000 for the week, ideally less. Ideally less than 5hours drive. We also had a Fab holiday in Yorkshire once, but took 7 hours driving ... Too much.

Under 5 hours drive from where?

Just south of London.

YHA do family rooms sleeping up to 6 in many of their hostels Smile

This one on Devon has family rooms for 5 or 6: www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-beer

And so does this one in Dorset: www.yha.org.uk/hostel/yha-portland

The family rooms often have a double bed plus bunks for the kids, good value meals available or you can self cater.

The last week of August is usually quite a bit cheaper than the week before. When I used to check out holiday camps and last minute deals I noticed this. I’ve stayed in a few youth hostels in the U.K. and they’re often good value and better than you expect, often with a hearty breakfast included.

Hey, the Dorset one looks awesome, thank you!

I was about to come on and say the same as Dreams, the last week of August is often cheaper.

isle of wight

Isle of Wight is always good for family holidays. See above . Easy to get to from South of London.
