Dh wants to take step son to Germany on the train

Ds (9) has been asking to go to Germany for a year. It’s not been really doable with a toddler sadly but I’m thinking about booking dh and my son tickets to go. They both love trains and I know they would enjoy it together.

Thing is, obviously ds has his “dad” on his passport and obviously a different surname to dh.

What can I do about this? Will letters from me be enough?

😩

Ring the border control and ask them.
If they say a letter wont work, can you say the passport has gone missing and have it replaced without his Dad on it?

I don't have my DDs surname and have travel abroad with her (and without her dad) numerous times, never had an issue about it.

www.gov.uk/permission-take-child-abroad

I live in France and have brought someone else's child back from the UK with no problems, with written permission as per the website above.
