Red blotches in babies face and chest while feeding.

Something really random has started happening while my baby is feeding. He's formula fed and feeds very well. He has suffered with reflux. But we've controlled it with Infant Gaviscon. Otherwise seems happy. Gaining weight etc. He's had baby acne for a while. Now, but is clearing. Anyway, when he's been taking his bottles. A blotchy red look rash comes over his face and his chest. But as soon as the bottle is finished. A few minutes later it's gone. It doesn't seem to bother him. I just want to know if anyone else's baby has this and do they know what it is??

Didn't mean to click the second picture and don't know how to delete it lol

The second photo is very cute leave it
Do you think it might be linked to breathing or does the teat need to for a faster flow /older baby

MassEffectMum88 · 23/03/2019 09:56

Aww thank you @Minty T I do love that picture :) He's just turned 3 months old. We changed his test from slow to medium about 6/7 weeks. But possibly could be we need to change it to fast. Because he really does try to guzzle his milk!

Hi, I know this post has been up a while but did you ever find what the cause was?

My baby is suffering from the same thing and we can’t understand what it is!

Emax92 · 09/07/2023 19:30

Just to say that my 4 month old is having the same issue currently. No other concerns just the blotchy skin that is gone once she has finished the bottle 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Emax92 @sullivanemily @MassEffectMum88 I realise this thread was a couple of years ago, but do any of you have an update on this as we are currently experiencing the same thing and wondering whether we should be questioning CMPA.
Grateful if you could let me know what happened for you guys.
Thanks so much.

@IVFjourney12 I'd taken him to the Doctor's over it a couple of times. In his case it ended up being that he was just guzzling his milk too quickly and not taking a breath as much as he should've been. The blotching was a reaction to that and because he's so fare skinned. It showed up more. The blotches always went away when he'd finished a bottle. So I just had to start taking the bottle out periodically so he'd catch his breath more. He's nearly 7 now and still guzzles his drinks 😂 I really hope that's all that's going on with your little one. But if it continues I'd look in to allergies maybe being a cause. All the best ❤️

Thank you so much for replying! So grateful.

And this is so unbelievably helpful because my son GUZZLES his formula! 😂 To the point where we try to pull the bottle out (because he finishes a whole bottle in minutes) but he then gets upset each time we take it out because he wants to keep guzzling.

Really hoping this is the answer for us, too. Will give slower feeding a go and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you so much again for responding - this info could be hugely enlightening! ☺️ x

@IVFjourney12 No problem at all 😊 I remember being really worried at the time. So if I can help ease your mind a bit l'm glad. I'm laughing because my son was the exact same hahaha We just messed around with the teat flows as well until we found one that was right for him. So that may help as well? X

@MassEffectMum88 😂😂😂 We clearly both have / had hungry boys!
Great, thank you, will also start testing different teats.
Fingers crossed we just have the same issue as you guys had. ☺️
Thank you so much again! X
