How do you pronounce sandwich?

I had no idea I did this until a colleague gently mocked me for it.

I listened to some others and they do it too.

I - apparently - say sangwich. Brought up on the west coast of Scotland, if that explains it.

oldowlgirl · 23/03/2019 10:18

I used to say sammidge until I moved to England & then trained myself to say sand-which.

ShabbyAbby · 23/03/2019 10:20

Samwidge

ShabbyAbby · 23/03/2019 10:21

My DD calls it a Sand-witch though. She's obviously a bit posher than me.

Spartak · 23/03/2019 10:21

museumum · 23/03/2019 10:23

I say san witch but I’m in Scotland and hear sang witch relatively often.

Absurditi · 23/03/2019 10:33

Sam-widj (I'm aware there's no M in sandwhich)

you could say piece and really annoy your workmate

Of you could really mess with them and say 'Ah'm lukin fir a piece tae hae a bit o peace sae Ah can eat a piece o ma piece'.

Is it just me or does the word piece look really weird?

Theunreasonableone · 23/03/2019 11:07

My FIL says Sang-wich, he is from the West of Ireland. I had never heard this pronunciation before hearing him say it.

BrokenWing · 23/03/2019 11:17

Sang-wich. West coast of Scotland too!! 👋🏼

drogon1 · 23/03/2019 11:22

Sarnie.

Redyoyo · 23/03/2019 11:37

If I'm in the house or my mother's i would say a piece on ham, cheese etc..however it would be sangwich everywhere else. My accent make it difficult to pronounce the d weirdly!

Hippopotas · 23/03/2019 11:46

Sandwidge but if informal amongst friends Sammich

EstrellaDamn · 23/03/2019 11:47
