I really need advice and feel lost.
My middle son, now 8, was born premature and with a heart defeat. He's always shown signs of having difficulties and being different from his siblings in regards to his temperament, behaviour and general personality. I've battled for years to get someone to help and finally after several appointments we are being seen by a specialist who believes he has ADHD.
We are now waiting for his school to make referrals for assessments etc. It's all new to me and its a minefield.
My problem is that there are some professionals who recognise him as having difficulties and others who are just adamant hes naughty.
I'm totally torn. I love my son dearly, at times he can be quite well behaved but on the whole he's destructive, lacks concentration and behaves badly. I dnt know whether to treat or punish his behaviour. Am i supposed to believe he's naughty till his properly diagnosed?? His school has already written his behaviour off as nothing more than attention seeking at its worst!!!
Sorry for the long post, I would be grateful for any help and advice I can get. Right now I feel like I'm letting him down
