Recently hired a car and when pulling up in the petrol station I wasn’t sure what side the tank was on, my MIL said look on the dashboard it will tell you “next to the petrol pump icon is an arrow either pointing left or right which tells you the side the tank is on” in all my time driving I never knew this!!

Trying to attach a picture to demonstrate the arrow is on the right

Would be great for others to share some wisdom they have been told by others

Did you know?!?!

This is a well known MN thing. I learnt it from MN. Along with the baby vest thing.

Whynham · 22/03/2019 23:01

Yeah, I knew that

CakeNinja · 22/03/2019 23:02

My dad taught me this years ago and it’s always been true with my cars, though some people report this not to always be the case Shock

SrSteveOskowski · 22/03/2019 23:06

Yes, I knew. I always try and pull into a pump on the right (literally) side. I hate having to pull the hose across.

UrsulaPandress · 22/03/2019 23:07

Yup.

3boysandabump · 22/03/2019 23:09

I did know but my car actually has the arrow on the opposite side to the filler cap

Skiphoppa · 22/03/2019 23:11

Seems like lots of you do know about it then, I have never come across it before/been told about it and nor had my husband or other family I asked. Very useful tip though

It's not on every car!

DramaAlpaca · 22/03/2019 23:25

I knew, but only found out recently after being driving for years & years. I might have read it on here, actually.

burgundyjumper · 22/03/2019 23:34

What baby vest thing?

Mmmhmmokdear · 22/03/2019 23:38

The baby bodysuits have an envelope neck. So if they poonami everywhere, you can pull them down, rather than getting poo all over their head pulling it over their head. Shame I didn't learn this until both DC were out of the baby bodysuits!

I didn’t know this! Thanks for sharing. We recently got a new car and the tank is now on the opposite side of the car to our old car so I always get confused when pulling into the petrol station! Want to go out and check my car now Grin

BarbaraofSevillle · 23/03/2019 04:12

Did you know that at most petrol stations it doesn't matter which side you go to as the hose reaches both sides anyway.

Brizzlemint · 23/03/2019 04:22

Don't rely on it, it's not always right.

junebirthdaygirl · 23/03/2019 04:34

Driving for over 30 years and didn't know that. As l also drive dhs car now and then and his has the tank on the opposite side it's a useful tip for me.
Also at my local, quite large petrol station the guy said to me ...we don't like people pulling the hose around the back of the car as it's a fire hazard.
So l do like to line up properly.

Birdie6 · 23/03/2019 05:17

I only found out that fuel thing about a year ago, after driving for 30 years

fblake · 23/03/2019 05:18

My personal car has the little arrow, but some hire cars I've had haven't ( think the last one was a Nissan) which was really annoying as I had to get out and check when I needed to fill up.

I didn't know thanks for sharing!
