Honeymoon help!

DF and I are planning our honeymoon for end of September/beginning of October.

Had planned for 5* super chill out Mexican holiday, but there’s still a Zika virus warning there and we want to TTC as soon as we’re married (to be honest we’re lax now, we’re ready to parents)
Waiting 3 months post Mexico as per current NHS Zika guidelines would be fine, but it’s made me think maybe best to consider other options, particularly as we’re not that careful.

Hoping to put out to the MN masses - South America, Southern African countries and most of the far and south east of Asia are out as options for Zika reasons.

Looking at 10 nights, ideally all inclusive but not essential, good service is important, we want to relax, read a book and enjoy some luxury. Roughly £5-6000 all in for both of us. Have considered Greek islands, or maybe North African safari.

What are we missing?

South Africa then Mauritius is a well trodden path for good reason.

I’d also look at some of the quieter Greek islands. We went around 22nd September last year and it was perfect weather - late 20s/early 30s with a breeze.

@austrian we did it for 5k we got the flights in the emirates sale, and trail finders put the pack together for us. They were amazing. The flight was one continuous flight with a 2 night stop over ticket. Deffo have a chat with trailfinders we couldn’t find a deal to match theirs ourselves and we are relitivly good at that type of thing

Have a look on I-escape.com, they have some lovely boutique non-chain type hotels and villas. We settled on Greece for our honeymoon because of Zika and we had been on several long haul trips before our engagement and were fed up with big flights. It was amazing, we read, sunbathed, swam and ate lots of very good food, felt much better value than Caribbean holidays of pre Zika worry days. Crete is one of the warmest islands, Santorini well known for honeymoons. If you don’t mind connecting flights I agree try a smaller less known island- some lovely looking places on I-escape I dream of going to! (I can’t get my frequent flying husband to agree to do convoluted journeys if he can help it)

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 13:09

When I’m looking up Mauritius it’s still saying on some sites possible Zika risk, and advised not to go there if pregnant/trying to fall pregnant? Maybe sticking to Greece/Europe is just safer all round.

Thanks Cyberworrier (great name!) I’ll have a look. I know my DP would prefer all inclusive so we can just totally chill and not have to think about anything while we’re there

Actually the CDC seems to think Mauritius and Sri Lanka are ok?

My husband proposed to me in the in the hotel in Mauritius that Shook posted. It was absolutely gorgeous, one of the nicest I’ve stayed in, and I highly recommend it. It’s called the Zilwa Attitude.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 13:22

And the Seychelles, but crazy expensive! Argh this is so hard! We had a plan

Shookethtothecore · 23/03/2019 13:50

@doob ahhhh how fab! We had a great time there it was wonderful

Shookethtothecore · 23/03/2019 13:51

I love Greece mind maybe go there to be safe. And Greek food is the best!

Hollowvictory · 23/03/2019 13:59

Seychelles is indeed way more expensive than Mauritius

HallowsandHorcruxes · 23/03/2019 14:11

We went to Hawaii and I'd highly recommend it- so lovely for a honeymoon, the people there are soo friendly and inclusive. There's several islands to choose from and we got a great deal on flights through a Canadian airline. We went to Oahu and it was stunning Smile

Jfw82 · 23/03/2019 14:32

Sri Lanka, zika free and diff coasts depending on time of year to avoid the rains

Hollowvictory · 23/03/2019 14:54

Hawaii would surely be over budget?

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 15:05

I think we’re going to go for Crete

OP posts:
BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 15:05

Yes Hawaii is very expensive, and such a long flight. As is Mauritius tbf

We stayed at a Sandals in the Bahamas as we didn't want to go to a zika area either. Luckily too as we conceived there 😂 was gorgeous would definitely recommend!

Cyberworrier · 23/03/2019 16:48

Hurray for Crete! We loved ours there. I want to go again!

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 18:46

hannah9176 the Bahamas is shown on the CDC map as a Zika risk area and to avoid conceiving after visiting there

WBWIFE · 23/03/2019 18:47

NHS website says men must wait 6 months before TTC - we are going to Bali and in the same situation

WBWIFE · 23/03/2019 18:49

Ignore me, they have recently changed the guidelines online but our travel clinic nurse said 6 months the other week!

WeeDoughball · 23/03/2019 18:55

@Shookethtothecore I'm pretty sure your photo is the hotel we honeymooned in too! Loved it and loved Mauritius.

BuffaloCauliflower · 23/03/2019 18:58

WBWIFE the NHS website says 3 months www.nhs.uk/conditions/zika/
