Potential holiday clash at work

I'm looking to go on holiday with my family, parents and sister & her family next year.
We've discussed when best to go & it's boiled down to the whit holidays, as quite a lot of the tour operators have put their holidays out for 2020, I have been looking quite a bit!

I mentioned it in work yesterday to my colleague who would need to cover part of my job (weekly payroll) and she was a bit funny with me saying that she was thinking of going away then with her family, but doing it separately and flights aren't out for 2020 yet (?) so she's not got further than that. I said that if that was the case then it is 14 months away & there is another person who could process it She works with the other lady, so if she potentially is off, then I doubt 2nd lady could take holidays at the same time

I was going to speak to our boss today, but ran out of time. I have seen a holiday which ticks all boxes and has a free child place, so a great price as well, so I'm itching to get this booked.

I do feel a bit mean but at the same time I've let her know my intentions & she did also say herself nothing was set in stone, whereas my plans more or less are.

What would you do?

I would put my holiday request in and hope I'd beaten her to it

Just put your request in. Hope you got there first. 14 months is a long time, either if you could have quit by then!

screamifyouwant · 22/03/2019 22:52

It's first come first served. So put yours in ASAP .

First up best dressed round here.

jelliebelly · 22/03/2019 22:57

I'd get that holiday request in sharpish. If you've given her the heads up she might have got in first though!

I'll get in there first thing Monday morning with my boss and email confirming as we don't really have an official holiday procedure (just a board to put our stickers on in the other woman's office!)

The dates I'm looking at are Wednesday to Wednesday so thinking more about it yesterday, I'm sure her kids only have the first week in whit as they are in secondary school, whereas my kids are in primary so have two weeks off, so I'm sure I could do the Tuesday before I go and she can do the week after, that's if the price doesn't shoot up when we're ready to book typical
