Just that really..

I'm trying to talk dh into buying a second washing machine because I just can't keep on top of it.

I'm doing 15-20 loads a week and have a 10kg machine. He says that it's plenty to big enough and that it's no problem when infact it's a massive problem because there's dirty washing constantly, and I've not seen the bottom of the laundry bin for about 2 years. There's 7 of us.

9kg - 4 people. Depends how often you wash bedding, towels, jeans, etc

Roomba · 22/03/2019 12:42

8kg - three of us and I do 3 or 4 loads a week generally.

Natsku · 22/03/2019 12:47

5.5kg, family of four, I do a load every day or close enough.

dementedpixie · 22/03/2019 12:48

I do quite a lot of washing too as dh and I go to the gym, he plays football and coaches rugby. Ds goes to football and rugby training. I don't have a tumble dryer though so I only have room to hang 2 or 3 loads of washing

sugarbum · 22/03/2019 12:48

I think ours is 7kg. I'd have preferred bigger but it came with the house. I have to do at least a load a day (4 people) to keep on top of it. More at the weekend.

WillowintheUK · 22/03/2019 12:55

Just a standard 8kg these days, as there's only one daughter still at home now so just three of us and we generally do our own washing anyway nowadays. However, there were six of us back in the day, I had two machines [really wanted a big American Maytag, but it was too pricey], and two tumble dryers. I was lucky as we could afford the costs involved and had a nice big kitchen then. If you've got the space and can afford it, get it.

chocolatelog · 22/03/2019 12:57

How are people getting away with one load a day when there's only 3 more of us 🙈 I must say now the ages of the kids are 17,16,14,4,2

I think my biggest problem is the teenagers because they don't put washing on the bin everyday they leave it pile up on there floors and then give me it all in one go 🙈 so then it's taking me 3 days just to do there's plus the everyday washing.

6 lots of bedding that I wash over a few days. I can't be doing with stripping them all together. Towels I wash everyday. There like gold dust in this house and if you find one you've got to hide it until you need it 😬

Also wash the cat a dogs beds regularly.

It's all horrific and I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

6kg small machine as we only have a silly sized gap to get it in. 3 people. It's a pain as the drum is smaller. Given the choice I would have a much bigger drum.

MyBreadIsEggy · 22/03/2019 12:59

I have a 9kg.
There’s 2 adults and 2 toddlers.
I do one load every day, two If bedding or towels need doing too.
It’s plenty big enough for us Smile

CIT80 · 22/03/2019 12:59

11kg and there are 5 of us ! I would love to have a second machine. I also do 20+ loads a week - bedding towels uniforms work clothes pyjamas onesies sports kits it’s never ending

dementedpixie · 22/03/2019 13:00

We're don't wash towels after 1 use. They are hung and reused several times (each have own towel)

formerbabe · 22/03/2019 13:02

6kg I think
Family of four
Two loads a day.. sometimes 3

It's definitely not big enough

BillywigSting · 22/03/2019 13:05

7kg and three of us.

Dp is an industrial chemist though and often comes home smelling horrendous with every item of clothing he is wearing needing a long hot wash separate from everything else.

I change clothes and pj's every day /night (am a sweaty betty) and ds gets a clean uniform every day because again, he comes home from school caked in mud/food/paint/all of the above more often than not.

Towels /bedding once a week /two weeks. Often lumped together.

I only do about four or five loads a week though.

10kg for seven people I would probably struggle.

melissasummerfield · 22/03/2019 13:09

10kg and a seperate tumble dryer for 5 people and they are never off Shock

According to mnet im a wierdo though as i wash towels after every use and my dc where a clean uniform and clean pjs everyday Confused

melissasummerfield · 22/03/2019 13:10

wear

Its been a long week Sad

Bluelonerose · 22/03/2019 13:12

My 7kg one has just given up on us.
Ide do 1 or 2 loads a day and there are 5 of us.
Have just had to have a 6kg one instead and I've been dragging my laundry down to my dm all week who only has a 6kg drum and I've pretty much got in the same load ide get in a 7kg drum so I'm hoping and praying that it will be ok.

chocolatelog · 22/03/2019 13:15

This is what I'm showing dh because he doesn't believe me lol.

I told him if we get another 10kg then I will be made up. I'm easily pleased, not one for nails, eyebrows, eyelashes ect I just want an easy life and two machines would sort me right out! 😁

I find that nothing gets washed properly either because I can't use the longer settings because there's 15 piles waiting to go in 🙈 honestly it's the bane of my life.

Myself and my 4 girls all change ours pjs everyday.

My 4 year old wears a clean uniform everyday because she's filthy at the end of the day.

The other two that are still in school change there's every other day.

Towels I try not to wash everyday but there's myself and two teenagers girls here with periods so they have to be washed after every use.

8kg 5 of us (15,11,10)

I wash Saturday and Wednesday and do about 4/5 washes at a time.

bellsbuss · 22/03/2019 13:29

10kg family of 6 and I do approx 15 loads a week

Natsku · 22/03/2019 16:22

I don't wash towels every day so that makes it much easier, and bedding only gets washed once a week or two and OH's work clothes only get washed at the end of the week, if he remembers to (I refuse to wash his work clothes, too many tools and bits and bobs in the pockets!)

MaverickSnoopy · 22/03/2019 16:47

Family of 5 here in tiny house with tiny kitchen so only have space for a washer dryer, which is 7kg wash and 4kg dry.

Wash daily here although sometimes not on weekends. Pyjamas changed every other day but knickers worn. Bedding and towels weekly. Clothes worn twice unless dirty. School uniform changed daily. 1-2 loads of washing per day. Children are small though - 7, 2 and 5mo.

3in4years · 22/03/2019 16:59

6kg
5 people
10-15 loads a week.

HumptyNumptyNooNoo · 22/03/2019 17:10

We have two washing machines and two dryers . Now only three of us at home. Have a pair of washer dryers in another house and they work better, will swap to that here too when these start to die

flapjackfairy · 22/03/2019 17:18

I have the same problem. We have 6 in the house but 2 have complex needs and create an awful lot of washing.
I have a 9 kg washer that is on numerous times a day. I would so love a laundry room with 2 washers and 2 driers
