School holiday fines 'double in one year' after landmark court case

Do you / would you take your kids on holiday during term time?

Debating this with DH and we both think that DS (not school age) wouldn’t be detrimentally impacted by us taking him on ‘holiday’ (by that, we probably mean to take him to visit my family in Germany) during school time.

Should we rethink this stance, or not? Would he really miss out by being taken out of school for a week?

No he wouldn’t miss out, unless he was preparing for exams, so year 2, year 6 and obviously GCSE years and A-levels.

Unless parents start taking the piss, taking a holiday every 2 mins we should be allowed to take our children on holidays whenever we want.

Over the years I have taken mine out loads of times. It's never been an issue.

Well my H is a teacher so I have no choice - we cannot have termtime holidays

Personally I hated missing school when in pre prep/prep because of the ebb and flow of friendships, out of sight out of mind at that age. I hated missing school when I was older because of all the extra work to catch up with upon my return. I did not thank my parents for term time holidays,so I tried to avoid them at all costs for my DC.
I believe it is pretty disrespectful to miss lessons that teachers have planned unless it is unavoidable. I also think education is a privilege that should not be taken lightly.
Having said that, classmates did take termtime holidays, particularly if they had family overseas, and it did not seem to affect educational outcomes.
