Can anyone advise me if it is ok to put Nissan oil in a Ford Focus? Ex left some and I need to put some in my car, but do different models need different oil? I'm completely clueless and don't know who to ask!!! TIA

Yes it’s different oil for different cars! But do not go to Halfords. They sold me the wrong oil and it’s wrecked my engine. Go to a car supply shop and tell them what car you have and they should know which oil you need.

You can Google what type of oil your car takes, it's not car specific there's just different types like 5w/40 etc. Have a look at the halfords website then see if they're the same type.

Ha! Well maybe not go to halfords but the website will tell you which type to get.

No it’s the Halfords website that is advising the wrong oil! They checked on their system and that was the oil that was recommended by it’s the wrong one.

Check what engine you have in the car, and look up the specification of the oil it needs. Then buy some.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/03/2019 18:25

Look in the instruction book for the oil type, which will look something like 0W/30 or 5W/40, or enter your registration number on a website like Eurocarparts.

If the oil you have is the same type (it will say on the bottle) it is suitable, otherwise not. Sometimes there are also different types for petrol and diesel or if you are on long life servicing, there's sometimes a specification number that looks like 500.00.01 but that might only be VAG group cars.

Another voice saying don't go to Halfords. Or should I say don't let them put oil ìn for you. They overfilled mine to the point that my engine blew up. The annoying thing is that I am perfectly capable of topping up my oil. I was just being lazy.

Yeah, go by the number/letter codes. The vehicle handbook should say what type of oil to use.

ANiceLuxury · 21/03/2019 21:01

Wow i didnt know i was suppose to top up my oil???

Its serviced once a year and i didnt know i was suppose to top it up in between.

BarbaraofSevillle · 21/03/2019 21:59

It might not need extra oil if it's serviced regularly and doesn't leak. I've been driving company cars for about 20 years so under 3 YO and serviced, and I've never had to put any oil in between services. I do check it every couple of months though, just in case, as should all drivers.
