Does anyone have any tips for smelly arm pits?

Dreamzcancometrue · 20/03/2019 21:27

I kind of have a problem. I sweat an excessive amount even during winter. And my body odour is quite sharp, its embaressing and Im very self conscious of it esp as im entering a new relationship.. Does anyone use any specific products or have a routine that involves their pits? I hope I'm not alone in that sometimes I smell, im a relatively clean woman but I cant help my overactive sweat glands.

Any advice would be widely appreciated!

Body hair can make area seen worse? (Not that you should have to shave if you don't want to lol) mitchum is quite good. Couldn't remember the name of it earlier lol diet can affect your sweat too.

Disfordarkchocolate · 20/03/2019 21:30

Hello, have you tried using soap instead of shower gel? Also, antiperspirants such as triple dry are best applied on an evening.

Stormwhale · 20/03/2019 21:31

The mitchum stick is the best, not the no white marks one, the original sticks, either pink or orange. They are absolutely brilliant and work for me even in the middle of summer when I really struggle with sweat and body odour.

There was a 30-page thread in Style and Beauty about a year ago where everyone raves about switching from shower gel to traditional bars of soap. Certainly for me, I found I feel and stay much fresher for the whole day having washed with soap, and my clothes don’t develop any body odours either.

I also sure Sure roll-on deodorant but I need it much less since using regular soap.

Summerw1ne · 20/03/2019 21:31

Driclor. It stings for the first week or so but once it’s built up enough then you only have to use it once a week. Since using it I’ve never needed to wear an antiperspirant.

GiveMeFiveMinutes · 20/03/2019 21:47

Use soap not shower gel, and apply stick deodorant at night before bed (best time to use it), then top up in the morning if you like.

Sure maximum protection stick deodorant is excellent.

JoinTheDots · 20/03/2019 21:51

Second the recommendation fr Sure Maximum Protection stick. Had not heard about the soap tip though - I shall try that.

Ylvamoon · 20/03/2019 21:52

I second soap, done wonders for me and my smelly teens!

Mustbetimeforachange · 20/03/2019 21:53

Yep real soap (not Dove, that's more like solid shower gel) really helps

AllTeaAllShade · 20/03/2019 21:55

i third a bar of soap its more effective then ahower gel. Also drink plenty of water and monitor what you are eating.

EeeSheWasThin · 20/03/2019 21:55

I used to use this, it’s in a jar and you rub it on. I found it very effective.

My friend suffered so badly she went to the doctor who prescribed her something which she only needs to use about every six weeks. Have you spoken to the doctor?

Ftumch · 20/03/2019 21:56

Proper soap and a stick deodorant. Mitchum is good.
I've actually found I'm less smelly since I stopped shaving my underarms.

strawberrylollipop · 20/03/2019 21:57

Driclor or Mitchum cream stick - I couldn't use driclor it irritated my skin but the men's Mitchum cream stick works wonders for me! Smile

PeonyTruffle · 20/03/2019 21:58

Recommend driclor too, it's amazing

Longdistance · 20/03/2019 22:02

Is it maybe your clothes/bras have soaked up some sweat over time?

Get the arm pits and rub vodka into them. Leave for a few hours and chuck it in the wash as usual,

Summerw1ne · 20/03/2019 22:04

If op has hyperhidrosis then its extremely unlikely that changing to bar soap will help. She needs something like driclor (yes it does sting and make your skin red raw for about 2 weeks but it’s worth it not to suffer). Botox is an option too.

Reters · 20/03/2019 22:04

Sure Maximum.

DanglyBangly · 20/03/2019 22:06

Putting deodorant on before bed - do you wash your pits first?

Morgan12 · 20/03/2019 22:11

What soaps do you use? I use dove but want the 'proper soap' discussed in this thread.

finnmcool · 20/03/2019 22:13

Go to your doctor. If you have hyperhidrosis, there are medication options as well as botox.

I was referred to an endocrinologist who really helped me after struggling for so long.

White vinegar on your clothes will help, might take a couple of cycles, especially for 30 degree delicates.

Soap instead of shower gel has helped, it doesn't leave a film which can be a barrier to antiperspirant.

I use the strong Dove or Sure and twice a week driclor, I'm also choosy about what fabrics I wear.

NoParticularPattern · 20/03/2019 22:15

My top tips are: use bar soap rather than shower gel, body wash etc. Don’t shave immediately before you need to not have sweaty pits- shaving makes my pits about 40000x sweatier than if I were to have only shaved a day or so before. Not noticeable if you need hairless pits but definitely noticeable in the sweat marks stakes! I also use Sure maximum protection every night. It’s teally great at stopping the sweating and there are some nice smells. Pricey but lasts AGES so works out cheap per use! I don’t need a lot- not even what they recommend to put on- but it does really help

Snowy111 · 20/03/2019 22:17

Agree with soap not shower gel. Like the vodka idea but never tried it!

Bakingberry · 20/03/2019 22:18

I've never heard that using soap is better then shower gel before. I'll have to go back to using soap. I've always found it can dry my skin out though. Can anyone recommend a good brand to try?

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 20/03/2019 22:21

Try drinking safe tea for a couple of days. Tastes disgusting but really helps.

Greaterthanthesumoftheparts · 20/03/2019 22:22

Sage tea
