Does anyone have any tips for smelly arm pits?

I kind of have a problem. I sweat an excessive amount even during winter. And my body odour is quite sharp, its embaressing and Im very self conscious of it esp as im entering a new relationship.. Does anyone use any specific products or have a routine that involves their pits? I hope I'm not alone in that sometimes I smell, im a relatively clean woman but I cant help my overactive sweat glands.

Any advice would be widely appreciated!

Pears soap is great. When my eczema flares up I tend to use aqueous cream or a soap based on nettles bizarrely. And a salt rock. They don't stop you sweating but it doesn't smell, and when I use soap I definitely don't sweat as much. Supposedly shower gel leaves a film on the skin.

Cwenthryn, my colleague who had cancer was warned by her Consultant not to use antiperspirants containing aluminium and also chemical hairdyes as they are carcinogenic. Natural alternatives like salt deo or henna have been cleared to be ok. Makes you wonder

AvocadoDream · 21/03/2019 12:45

There we are merrily putting aluminium compounds under our arms while people with cancer history are told to avoid them like a plague. Same with talc really. There have been successful law suits in the US when long-term users of talc on their privates ended up with ovarian cancer diagnosis. Autopsy findings revealed presence of talc particles inside the ovaries. They find their way into the lungs just as well and wreck havoc there. Makes me angry these mothers in the swimming pool changing rooms dousing their unsuspecting children in this stuff and the rest of us have to breath it in too. So bloody antisocial not to mention hazardous to health.

Sorry OP, I know you must be desperate to do something, anything. But do research the active compounds in these sweat blockers to make an informed decision.

I make my own with Shea butter, arrow root and bicarbonate soda, the bicarbonate is really good at getting rid of the smell but doesn’t stop the sweating, lots of recipes online, cost hardly anything to make either 😁

Wash regularly using a minty soap. Visit the gp where you can get refered for under arm botox for serious sweating or given a tough deodorant and wear cotton if you can.
Also avoid certain foods like curry and onions/ garlic. I think fresh coriander is suppost to help with sweaty smells.

Definitely change your diet as junk food, dairy and processed meat products as well as some strong spices can cause pungent odour.

Vegetables, fruit and fish, nuts and seeds won't make you smell.

wash with soap, maybe dettol soap? Use a good antiperspirant, triple dry is good and normally on offer in boots.

Bought some Driclor. Oh my god the itching!!!! So itchy!!! Then comes the stinging! I’m doing my best not to scratch as I know it’ll probably make it worse Confused

finnmcool · 21/03/2019 20:35

pinkdaydreams when was the last time you shaved your armpits?
I usually leave 48 hours, because I've had the sting and it's epic!
Also, they have to be bone dry when you apply it.

Perspirex made my skin red raw, it got so bad in three weeks, I was embarrassed to wear sleeveless tops or lift my arms. And I had a ‘gentle’ version. So kind of defeated the point.

I now do bar soap coupled with mineral salt stick like PitRock, plus I had to sanitise my previously worn tops and now use vinegar on the garment in the pits area every time I wash them. Provided you are very very generous with the salt stick, it works just fine, apart from certain polyesters which will smell no matter what within 2 hours. I had to bin one of my gym tops for that reason. Noticed my pits smelled when I was wearing it.

I swore off long-acting sweat blockers after that horrendous experience, natural alternative works well enough. If I go to the gym, I always shower with soap beforehand and rub plenty of salt deo on. Leave the gym smelling of roses :)

im the same butg overweight so that prob doesnt help-mitchum had no effect whasoever so i might try driclor can you buy it anywhere?

Fluffyears · 21/03/2019 21:53

I use dettol soap (the sensitive one smells good I get it in savers) to kill bacteria. I use driclor when I need it (before holiday, when weather begins to heat up etc I get it from boots). I use Mitchum anti-perspiration in the mornings. My routine is a shower with dettol soap, I thoroughly wash my armpits, when I come out the shower I wipe my underarms with rosewater that I buy from boots. I ‘double layer’ deodorant by putting it on and letting it dry and then putting it in again and letting it dry. The last step is lush dusting powder as it’s talc free and helps absorb any moisture.

Botox in your arm pits would stop this

Flobalob · 22/03/2019 00:48

I had this problem and saw the suggestion on MN about using soap. I use Sainsbury's tea tree oil soap. Plus I spray clothes on the underarm with Shout stain remover before washing.

Mummaaon · 22/03/2019 06:21

Botox in the pit area - incredible results

PinkDaydreams · 22/03/2019 08:05

@finnmcool I’d shaved yesterday morning and also put it on straight after the shower so I think that’s why I was so itchy and stingy! I’ll leave it an hour after my shower before putting it on again.

PinkDaydreams · 22/03/2019 08:06

Tea tree oil soap sounds nice @flobalob I’ll have to give that a try! :)

BertieBotts · 22/03/2019 08:07

I find the sports type deodorants which claim 48h protection work best for me.

loubieloulou · 23/03/2019 10:54

I had problems with excessive perspiration, I shower in the morning & the evening ( twice a day ) I wear clean clothes for work everyday & still I smelt of BO by lunchtime. My lunchtimes at work were spent washing my armpits with hand soap & drying under the hand dryer ( luckily we had toilet cubicles that had a sink & hand dryer in ) it was really getting me down, I was mortified.

Huge change now ..... problem solved....

I wash armpits with pears bar of soap instead of just shower gel & I apply this deodorant nightly - sometimes skip a night due to forgetting but it's fab - it's solved the problem, I still apply Mitchum roll on in the mornings too for double protection. I tried driclor, tried it for several weeks & couldn't cope with the raw irritated armpits & sting so I binned that then I tried the below product, although it needs applying more than driclor there's no sting & it has worked for me. I've stocked up on it as I can't live without it now. Product is in picture Smile

P.S the triple dry is applied nightly, after washing & before bed. It takes a while to dry but it's worth the faffing about for the great results.

Nofilter · 27/04/2019 10:02

This!! You wear is 3 days in a row then don't for 3 days and so on and it's completely stops your armpits from sweating. I've found it to be life changing!
