Recommendations for running shoes please

My trusty old running shoes are falling apart and I'm in the market for a new pair. Problem is, I have absolutely no clue as to where to begin due to the sheer variety that's out there!

Bit of additional info (not sure if it matters):

  1. I run solely on pavements (usually at around 2am so don't worry I'm not blocking anyone's way)
  2. I do a mix of sprinting (300m) and mid/fast-paced jogging (2km)
  3. Not quite a fan of heavily-cushioned shoes - much prefer the more minimalist types
  4. No budget so anything goes (within reason of course)

Any suggestions? Thanks!

Dp runs similarly to you (but further) he loves the Brooks levitate 2 I got him for Christmas.

Go to a proper running shop for a gait analysis and see what they recommend for you. Running shoes are too personal for anyone else’s recommendations to be any good for you.

I like my vapourmax but I like a bouncy run

paisho · 20/03/2019 20:09

ThanksItHasPockets will definitely be doing that! Thought I'd get some recommendations first though so I can look out for specifics instead of going in completely blind.

Definitely get a gait analysis somewhere where they video your stride so you can see if you over/under pronate. I really Brooks (specifically GTS Adrenaline) shoes but each to their own x

Our local running shop just gave me about 4 pairs to choose from and watched me run on the treadmill. I had one brand I knew I didn't like and I was right, I got Sarcony I think in the end. I don't over pronate BTW.

Do you need a neutral or a supportive sole?

I like cushioning, so you probably wouldn't like the ones I do!

But from the brands I have liked best (excluding Hoka Wink ) try Mizuno.

The one I did not get on with, because even the cushioned shoe was too minimalist for me, is Saucony

Yes get a gait analysis. I third Brooks running shoes though, I’ve tried lots of brands but these are the best.

Thistles24 · 20/03/2019 21:02

Another vote for Brooks!

Kleptronic · 20/03/2019 21:06

I went and got gait analysis (neutral) tried on loads and ended up with Brooks. I'm crap at running though. But I love my shoes. They are slightly bouncy but not too much.

Another vote for Brooke's & Saucony!
