Starts with a horrible chesty cough, then turns into a cold with a sore throat but the cough is ongoing and then finally you end up with a severe ear infection?

Four of my children are down with it, baby is burning up and pulling at her ears so going to the doctor soon. Here was me hoping to enjoy my last 3 weeks of maternity leave. Typical. Poor children are so unwell.

Sorry no one has replied , we had something like this about a month ago but not the ear infection , knocked me and dh out for a few weeks but our kids all 18+ avoided it somehow ,its no fun and I can believe is especially hard for younger children , hope you feel better soon 💐

Thank you. I just realised my mistake in the title too.
I am so exhausted, i stayed up between 1-4am to watch the baby (also has an ear infection) and my teenager as she was quite unwell in the night with dizziness.

I have it now. No ear infection but need to keep 'popping' my ears.
Oh the cough though, I've been on the sofa for 5 nights running in fear of waking everyone else. Once I start I just cannot stop! Sad

Yes the cough is horrendous. I’ve had it for nearly two weeks already and no sign of it going yet. I spend my nights coughing so much i’m gagging. Really horrible virus.

No ear infection here either but the coughing - well - suffice to say I'm keeping Tena Lady in business lately!

Guylian2019 · 21/03/2019 17:55

With 60+ million people in the UK there will be hundreds of different bugs going around. Plus the thousands of mumsnetters from overseas.

I'm not a fan of posts like this as people are from all over the place.

Bigkingdom · 21/03/2019 18:29

There are many posts on mumsnet i am not a fan of but i scroll past, it’s kind of what you do on a busy public forum. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Guylian2019 · 21/03/2019 18:49

I understand that but there's about 5 of these posts a day. Surely people can see that asking a random forum where people might be a thousand miles away about bugs going around is mad. Oh well.

Mumofcrazy2 · 21/03/2019 20:38

Not really guylian. Bugs spread, they don't just stay in one village Hmm

Guylian2019 · 21/03/2019 20:43

Oh really I never knew that. Hmm

Travis1 · 21/03/2019 20:47

@guylian what really was the point of your post other than to try and make op feel shit? And given she’s having a tough time with 3 I’ll kids that’s a fucking horrid thing to do.

@bigkingdom I’m just coming out the other side and the ear infections hit! The cough is relentless. It’s my birthday tomorrow and all I want is a proper sleep. Plus this virus is making me utterly exhausted.

Mumofcrazy2 · 21/03/2019 20:49

You will know when it gets to your location. Get those tena ladies ready!!Grin

TheVanguardSix · 21/03/2019 20:52

Oh it's dreadful, OP. I work in a school. DH is a GP. Unbelievably, we haven't gotten it even though we're in environments where flus hang out, waiting to catch a victim.
My two sons had this awful virus. My 17 year old had it over hal-term and continued to be totally bedridden for 5 days when school resumed. Today is the first day he is back to normal and not exhausted by 7pm. He was floored by it.
I really can't believe I didn't get it. I'm secretly waiting!

Grin Grin Grin Seriously! I'd get the disposable pants!

Travis1 · 21/03/2019 21:07

Mine has also come with a side of cold sore. One on my lip and a cluster of tiny ones between my lip and nose and they’ve now all conjoined to make a giant cold sore that wants to take over the world!

curlyLJ · 21/03/2019 21:17

I had it, then somehow caught some other virus I think and the whole lot turned into a chest infection rather than in my ear - although my sinuses and ears have been very congested/blocked.

I've been ill for 5 weeks and I'm still not 100%.
Had 2 lots of antibiotics and a chest X-ray which showed the infection in my lung. Sick of being ill now, but I'm on an upward trajectory now I think.

nombrecambio · 21/03/2019 21:28

I don't think the OP was starting an epidemiology study!

My DS has something very similar. Including the ear infection. The rest of the family just had chest infections.
